3 Taoist Tools For and Mental Health
Mindfulness, conservation, community, commitment, and collaboration,
When done well daily morning mindful practices create a better life for all and give people of humble means the opportunity to prosper, maintain my mental focus and pay it forward to others in need.
You can’t just make this stuff up as you go along. My success is based on three areas of study
- Taoism: A philosophy of living mindfully,
- Applied game theory: A system for strategizing when dealing with others,
- Sun Tzu: The great Taoist military strategist.
Still, at the end of the day, it is my morning spiritual discipline that keeps me focused.
A spiritual discipline is the regular or full-time performance of actions and activities undertaken for the purpose of inducing spiritual experiences and cultivating mental, emotional, and spiritual development. A common metaphor used in the spiritual traditions of the world’s great religions is that of walking a path.
My work as a teacher of Mystic Taoism, game theory, and strategic thinking are all supported by that discipline. It is from here that Taoist thought shows me the path to mindfulness, conservation, community, commitment, and collaboration,
For me, no matter what my daily chores may be, I treat each as a spiritual exercise based on love, relationship. and helping others to find happiness.
From a spiritual perspective, there are three elements required to create what I call a meaningful life.
My three approaches, which all use applied game theory, are focused on addressing change as it arises. They are;
- Collaboration
- Community
- Work-Life Balance
As we explore our needs, we sometimes realize that our lives are a merging of many diverse elements. These elements have come together to produce something that is obviously greater than any of the qualities in the individual parts. It is as if two plus two was to equal five. The doctrine that explains this phenomenon is known as holism. Holism emphasizes the priority of a whole over its parts.
In life, if we are wise, we do what we need to do, and do not do what we don’t need to do. If we think and act with this in mind, most things will unfold easily and smoothly. The challenge, of course, is knowing what we need to do, rather than what we want to do.
Holism is a very important concept for the extraordinary individual seeking to create an effective life game strategy.
Of course from the perspective of science and logic, the idea that the sum might be greater than the parts makes no sense. Still, the concept of holism and synergy has been embraced in many of the social sciences but is still considered a radical concept in the mainstream scientific community, though many physicists have embraced it.
1. Collaboration — Collaboration is the process of two or more people, entities, or organizations working together to complete a task or achieve a goal. Collaboration is similar to cooperation but where cooperation is a more organic process collaboration often results from a planned intention. Most collaboration requires leadership, although the form of leadership can be social within a decentralized and egalitarian group
2. Community: Many businesses belong to trade associations. These Support communities can be very valuable in helping one create a business influenced by the concept of conservation and balance. In the most efficient, effective, and conscious group dynamics, there is an intention to give people greater tools and resources. This is done while supporting them in reducing or transcending those actions that limit or infringe on the freedoms or happiness of others. In the end, all these thoughts are totally meaningless unless you are committed to a life of love, spiritual clarity, emotional balance, kindness, and business success. The willingness and ability to apply the concept and code of conservation and balance on a day-to-day basis will allow you to experience short-term success, and many long-term benefits, while skillfully and consistently minimizing unnecessary struggle.
3. Work-Life Balance — There is no one definition of what a balanced life is. But the intention to live this type of life provides one with an opportunity for introspection. As you become more consistent in the application of effective, conscious business practices you will become more emotionally mature and your genetic makeup and biology will naturally, and intuitively, guide you to create a business model that will serve your spiritual needs.
“Gratitude goes beyond the ‘mine’ and ‘thine’ and claims the truth that all of life is a pure gift. In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts received, but now I realize that gratitude can also be lived as a discipline. The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy.” ― Henri J.M. Nouwen
Takeaway
One thing is clear — you can never attain a balanced life or business success through the use of logic, the rational mind, and common sense alone. What seems reasonable will be useless to you in rapidly changing markets. A more profound way of thinking is required to succeed here.
