3 Roles Creators Play to Make a Business Succeed
A creator has to be their own boss, has to be a good team player and has to be an entrepreneur.
A creator must play one different role at a time to make their business succeed. Let me explain.
As a freelance content writer sometimes I wish I had someone who straightly tells me what to do next. — Have you had the feeling? Or how about having someone who pisses you off when you are idle and you don’t complete the tasks of the day? –Am I the only one here?
We were told that being your own boss will fix all your problems because:
- You will live from your passions
- Your income will depend on your effort
- You can have lunch at anytime
- You are free to wake up at your preferred time
But wait.
Being a freelancer also means that you will also play the role of a team member. The whole responsibility of your business (and your income) depends on yourself and your decisions. For example:
- Getting clients
- Producing your content
- Providing your service and your product
- To make and send invoices
- Promoting your business
- Creating marketing campaigns
- And the list goes on.
And at the same time, a freelancer has to keep the entrepreneur sparkle alive which will let you move forward in the face of adversities. You know you still playing the freelancer role when:
- You keep yourself motivated
- Your dreams still alive
- And you believe in yourself.
The one thing that you can do to bring your business to the next level and actually make money from your side hustle, is to create a strategy where you play different roles for your business's sake and for your wallet wellness.
First, you have to learn how to be the boss of the most procrastinator person you know. Yes, yourself.
As a freelancer, you don’t have to play the role of a shitty boss with yourself. But the answer of how to bring your business to the next level is already said: You have to be your own boss.
Several clues will determine if you are ready to be your own boss. For example: be excited about your projects, find an action plan for every excuse and having motivation beyond money to move forward.
To be your own boss means that you have to be firm with your habits, you must be committed to your business and be disciplined with your everyday tasks and routines.
In every business, you can easily identify who plays the boss role because they usually have a TO-DO attitude and are always willing to do something for keeping the business alive.
The business mindset you should have as a freelancer if you want to play the role relies on feeling proud of yourself, your business’s numbers and your achievements.
This business is up to you and only you. There’s none else in your team to blame. Not this time, my friend.
It is time that you start taking the lead in your business in a serious way. This is the main reason aspiring freelancers fail because they are used to receive orders to take action, being supervised while working and being pissed off for being idle.
You don’t need a shitty boss, but you have to empower yourself and take the lead of your procrastinating self and be your personal dream team.
As a freelancer, you will also play the role of your own dream team.
Do you remember when you tried to be the first and the last one in the office because you wanted to win a bonus at the end of the month?
Long story short: you would roll up your sleeves to gain recognition and to be part of the honour roll.
The question here is: Why would you come out with the best side of yourself to achieve someone else’s dreams and you are not doing enough for achieving yours?
Once you get the lead in your business; your inner boss role will not let you as a team member go to sleep until you are done with your tasks. Whenever that happens, remember that you are now working for and by yourself and that:
- You are working hard. After all, you know you can succeed in your dreams because you are a skillful and determined person. — Aren’t you?
- There will always be loss betrays from which you can get valuable knowledge. People who don’t fail, don’t succeed. As Anthony Moore states in his post.
- None else knows that being a freelancer means that you are playing a different role every day for achieving your objectives. None is aware that you slept at 4 am, that you skipped your breakfast and that you missed the best party of the year. This is why you shouldn’t pay attention to the negative comments or whatever people say about you and your projects. Instead: GO FOR IT!
You have to maintain the entrepreneur sparkle alive. Freelancers are the dreamers and crazy people who once had an idea and the belief that if they worked hard they could succeed
Do you remember when you told your best friend you wanted to start your freelance business, to quit your job, to be your own boss and to live from your passions?
The sparkle of motivation is the one that as an entrepreneur will make you move forward. Life can’t always be as colourful, sweet and soft as cotton candy. Don’t let hard times and turbulence in your journey affect the dreams and objectives once you had.
Please do not upset your younger self who believed that in the future you would succeed anything you propose yourself. Look back and remember that once you thought you could make it possible. What is holding you now?
Wrapping everything up
Success is a variable whose meaning will depend on your very personal criteria. You must pursue your dreams while making yourself proud.
Taking the lead of your business, being the dream team member while keeping the motivation sparkle alive is not an easy task. Not even talking about having everything under control and give yourself enough rest.
In my personal path as a freelance content writer, the role in which I have been struggling the most is to be my own boss. Actually, sometimes I find myself lost and beg for guidance from a boss other than me. But I’m still standing (yeah, yeah, yeah.)
Would like to know which from these three roles you struggle the most with and what are you doing to convert a weak into a strength?
