3 Side Hustles You’ve Never Heard Of But Can Start Today
Earn $1,500 per month letting dogs take dumps in your yard
There are several side hustles we all learn about on a daily basis. Whether it’s writing online, reselling or offering a paid course, we’ve all heard some variation of the same few popular gigs.
It makes sense. Why reinvent the wheel when you don’t need to?
I recently started a website dedicated to making money from various side hustles, and it got me thinking.
What are some side hustles that fly under the radar? You know, odd jobs people are doing but aren’t being circulated.
I did some digging and found a laundry list full of unknown side hustles. From this list, there were three that stuck out to me as side jobs you can start making money from today but are super lowkey.
Here’s what they are.
Bug bounty hunter
After becoming a website owner and trying my hardest to prevent spam from my site, I discovered a side gig called a bug bounty hunter.
There are hackers out there who target websites and hack into their vulnerabilities. Maybe there’s an opportunity for your entire email list to be exposed or the comment section of your website can easily be spammed, the latter was the case for me.
In a sense, it’s kind of like a “one evil is worse than another evil” kind of ordeal. Yes, this person is hacking your website, which is not a good thing, but at the same time, the bug bounty hunters I’ve met are extremely professional and kindly report back their findings.
They submit a ticket, greet you kindly, report their findings and tell you how to fix it and then ask for payment.
Whether or not they choose to maliciously attack your website if you don’t pay them is an entirely different story. After all, most of their clients don’t ask them to try and find holes in their website’s firewall. They just go ahead and do it.
Some people call bug bounty hunting a form of blackmail, I — along with the bug bounty hunters — call it a side hustle.
Sniffspot
Sniffspot is a platform used to find safe spaces for dogs to exercise and squeeze in their outdoor time. It’s targeted toward dog owners who live in cities and can’t easily find safe, private spaces for their puppers to run, sniff and take dumps.
The way this side hustle works is simple. When you sign up, you basically agree to let a random stranger and their dog use the yard of your property to run around in and poop on.
Before you start to worry, owners are required to clean up after their own dogs.
According to Sniffspot’s website, you can earn up to $1,500 per month sharing your yard with other people and their dogs.
This side hustle is fascinating, to say the least.
The concept is completely understandable, but if you live in an area that doesn’t have ample space for your dog to run around and be free then should you really be owning a dog? That’s a question for another day.
The bottom line is this side hustle can be a great source of passive income because all your doing is allowing people to use your yard and you’re helping dogs at the same time.
Look at it like this, if you like dogs then you’ll definitely see a lot more popping up around your house after signing up to host for Sniffspot.
Moirologist
Google the word “moirologist.”
It sounds a lot like meteorologist, but I guarantee your Google search resulted in something much different. A moirologist is a professional mourner.
Yes, you get paid to morn at funerals. The funerals are for people you’ve never met before, but you better show up with your crying face on because once you walk in, those tears have to start flowing.
Apparently, this is much more common of a gig than most people think.
The reason why a family hires a moirologist is to increase attendance at a funeral, help loved ones cope with a loss and show support for the dead. If you’re hired as a moirologist as a side hustle, there’s a chance you might be asked to help grieving guests.
The hourly pay rate of a moirologist varies depending on experience, but on average they make between $70-$120 per funeral. Decent money to stand around and pay respects to a dead stranger.
Look outside of the box for a side hustle
Side hustles we read about on a daily basis are commonly explained because they work and can be applied to the majority of people.
However, if you can master a side hustle that’s unique, the competition you’ll find for that gig will be much lower compared to a common one like dropshipping or reselling.
I’m not saying being a moirologist is exactly the kind of side hustle that will change your life, but I don’t know a lot of people who will willingly attend funerals even if they get paid.
