3 Side Hustles to Start From Home in 2021
My most lucrative side hustle is my easiest one.

With the new year right around the corner, creating more streams of income might be at the top of your to-do list. You’re not alone, we’re in this together because it’s at the top of my list as well.
A new year is a great way to get a fresh start at making more money. I had a lot of success with making money using side hustles in 2020. Obviously having extra money is always great but my favorite part is that I made every cent from the comfort of my own home.
I’m not against getting a part-time job to make extra money on the side, working at Target on the weekends is fine. I just didn’t feel comfortable working outside my home in today’s climate.
There is money to be made without leaving your home.
These are the three side hustles I had the most success with last year and plan to make more money with next year.
Reselling Business
I’m not talking about buying books at Dollar Tree and selling them online. That’s redundant and requires too much time outside of your home.
I’m talking about targeting popular items, buying them online before they sell out and then reselling them for a premium. Don’t feel bad about doing this, it’s capitalism at its finest.
Before you skip over this first side hustle idea, let me give you some background information. It’s my most lucrative side hustle and it’s my easiest side hustle. That’s right, my most lucrative side hustle is my easiest one. The only time I leave my home is when I’m going to the post office or UPS because I’ve made a sale.
The biggest issue for most people is that they don’t know what to buy and resell. Honestly, I don’t have an idea about half the things I’m selling, I just know they sell for a profit.
My biggest resell item is rare sneakers. It’s specific to me because I’ve always loved shoes. Other items I’ve resold for money this year are:
- PSA graded Pokemon cards
- PSA graded basketball cards
- Unopened rare Pokemon packs
- Unopened rare basketball card packs
- Kylie Jenner lip kits
- Backpacks (odd I know)
- LEGO sets and individual pieces
I’ve seen moms resell their kid’s old LEGO pieces for more money than they bought them for and I’ve seen kids resell sneakers they bought for 6x the amount they paid. It’s possible to do and it’s easy. Don’t miss out.
Surveys
You might’ve seen in your early Google searches about making money from home that you can get paid to take surveys online. This is true.
I made $200 in May from one survey website alone.

This specific website was Amazon’s mturk. Yes, the Amazon we all love offers a survey taking website that you can earn money from. It’s honestly one of my favorite ones to use. I’ve made great money using mturk and I plan to do the same thing in the new year.
This isn’t the only survey-taking website you can use to make money on or the favorite of most people. If you really want to find every option you have to make money taking surveys, I suggest joining the subreddit r/beermoney. It’s a great community for learning how to make extra money on the side.
The other survey websites I’ve made money on are:
- Swagbucks
- Appen
- Clickworker
- Prolific
Freelancing
Last, but not least, I had to include the most obvious one. We’ve all heard about, tried and given up on freelancing. Yes, freelancing can be a difficult world no matter how you angle it.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a writer, digital art designer or accountant, freelancing your skills is a challenge. The good part about it is if you’re reading this story then you’ve already found one great place to try your hand at freelancing: Medium.
Whether you’re a great writer or not, there is money to be made on Medium by writing about information people want to learn. I usually refer people to Medium who haven’t written at all but have other skills they can write about. Anyone can learn to write, not anyone can learn to code or teach coding.
If you don’t like the idea of writing on Medium, you can always try sites like Fiverr or Upwork but I strongly disliked using those. Too much competition, not enough success.
Instead, try reaching out to big companies or blogs. Typically, your favorite blogs are always looking to hire writers.
Freelancing is tricky but profitable if you’re successful. Starting on a website like Medium or Substack are great ways to get the ball rolling.
