Email list building in a nutshell is all about autoresponders, autoresponder emails, and newsletters. Creating landing pages and web forms.
Basically, quite a lot of work as anyone who knows about list building will tell you. Although I am not so sure the guys with huge email lists will agree with me. And rightly so.
Because having a huge email list equals a rather impressive income, I cannot in all honesty deny that. However, apart from costing quite a bit of money to maintain a large email list.
The technicalities of email list building can be overwhelming when you’re just getting started. Personally, I have tried email list building a few times and failed to turn them as profitable as I would’ve wanted them to be.
It is believed (to the best of my knowledge) that an email list is worth around a dollar per subscriber per month.
Remember that with making money online, there is no “one size fits all”. What works for one person, may not work quite as well for the next.
By all means, feel free to try email list building, because it does have the potential of a substantial passive income.
Just know that it is a lot more work building a large email list than it is building a large viral list. Or, at least it was for me as I worked my way through finding profitable alternatives.
An email list is basically having subscribers that receive your emails, Right? Well, so is a viral list because subscribers receive notifications of your new posts.
Followers also receive a notification of your latest content published, strikingly similar, right? You can even write eBooks to build a viral list, but I have already covered that in another post.

There are 5 reasons I can think of to rather build a viral list than an email list, especially for beginners.
Because while most autoresponders will provide you with a trial, many require a monthly payment of around $15 — $19 for a list of 500–1000 Subscribers.
There are free autoresponder options, but that is just an indication of costs that may be required depending on the autoresponder you choose.
The larger your email list gets, the more it will cost you to maintain.
Therefore, if your email list is not generating commissions, it becomes an expensive exercise with little to no return on investment (ROI).
Building a viral list has quite a few advantages as opposed to the alternative of list building.
No Autoresponder Costs.
No Autoresponder Messages.
No More Sending Newsletters.
No Web Forms are Needed.
No Landing Pages are Required.
Web forms are not needed because sites like Medium and your WordPress blog for instance already provide that to collect subscribers/followers.

With Medium, you can include the option to subscribe, along with a “reward” button if you wish. If people find value and a solution to their problem, they will sometimes pay you for your effort.
However, if you do publish your content with other publishers on Medium, then your subscribe option at the end of your publication will change. A subscribe option to the publication will now replace your own subscribe option.
Not to worry, you can still add a subscribe option in the settings to display beneath your second post on your Medium profile. Because it is important to get accepted and write for large publications.
That is how you get a lot more eyes on your profile, where your subscribe link is visible. See where this is going?
Both your Quora Profile and Quora Spaces (Spaces can also have Subscribers) collect followers.
Therefore, no landing pages and none of all the technicalities of email list building are required. A rather refreshing way to get a lot more response and engagement.
Build a List Without Building an Email List.
There are 3 ways I personally enjoy listed below. Building an audience on Medium, WordPress, and Quora. With WordPress, you build up followers and subscribers to your blog.
Then do the same with Medium and Quora.
As with email list building you want to attract followers and collect subscribers. Which is precisely what you will be doing while growing on these 3 platforms.
The followers and subscribers you collect receive notifications/emails when you publish fresh content.
Rather similar to basic email list building and emails being sent out, right? My point exactly, only this time it does not cost you anything.
Floods of free “subscribers” cost you zero monthly instalments to maintain.
Medium. (Medium Subscribers/Followers)
Quora. (Quora Spaces/Subscribers/Followers)
Blogging (Blog Subscribers/Followers)
It will however require a lot of work, as you want to combine Quora and Medium for an explosive result. Answering questions with high follower counts redirecting to a relevant Medium article.

Building a List and Follower Count on Medium.
As with any other profile, your Medium profile must be as complete and professional as possible. That can only be maintained with high-quality useful content and consistency.
The value you offer determines the response from your readers.
You need to set up the email subscription option on your Medium profile under settings. Just follow the simple steps. That way your followers receive notifications, and your subscribers (like an email list) receive an email.
A notification of your new content posted or published. But with an email list, your emails contain links to digital products. So, how do you make money through a viral list?
Well, you will have to keep reading because that is discussed under the last heading.
Building a List and Follower Count on Quora.
Apart from your Quora profile, you will also need Quora spaces to build large audiences. When I say large, I am not talking a couple hundred, but rather a couple thousand in a surprisingly “short” time in comparison.

As you can see above, this particular Quora space has 72.3K Followers! With 18.8K Views and growing by an average of 800 followers per WEEK!
From personal experience, good luck getting 800 email subscribers per week and maintaining that growth. With the same amount of effort, it took to do just that with Quora spaces.
How much will an email list that size cost you per month?
All these followers will receive notifications of new answers, posts, or questions the admin (you) publishes or approves.
800 Followers gained on average per Week! How much effort will that require to get 800 email list subscribers every week? I think quite a lot more, but that’s just my opinion.
Personally, I just find this kind of list-building more profitable because it works better for me.
Quora spaces also provide the option to subscribe to a particular space. As a complimentary subscriber (you may get invited) or choose to be a paid subscriber.
This however is part of the Quora earnings program and is not yet available in all countries. Followers however do not have any limits and serve pretty much the same purpose. Exposure and response.
Building a List and Follower Count on Your Blog.
As with Quora Spaces and Medium, your WordPress blog also provides the necessary tools to collect both subscribers and followers.
All 3 of these techniques have one primary purpose in common, collecting subscribers and followers.
In doing that you are building a large audience that is probably waiting on your next post or publication because they enjoyed your other content.
That is why they are following and/or subscribing to your blog, medium profile, and Quora spaces in the first place. Maintaining consistency with content that solves problems is a proven winner!
But your useful content also needs to reach the right audience by means of GEO targeting. This has several advantages, the most important of which is ensuring affordability.
When you want to promote high-ticket affiliate offers on your blog. Then you will need top-tier traffic from countries like.

Germany.

There is but one “secret” I know of and that is useful, compelling, and consistently high-quality content. Offering solutions, answers, and guides to identified needs within your niche will always work like a charm.
Digital marketing is simply the art of turning knowledge into digital content, or digital products. The level of your knowledge and ability to solve problems will determine the rate of your audience growth.
Profiting from viral traffic is pretty much the same as profiting from any traffic. Only all this traffic is 100% free and costs you nothing to build or maintain. But that is only from a financial point of view.
Getting your “viral list building” off the ground so to speak, as mentioned before, you will need to compete with your knowledge and content.
There are a few basic steps or elements that form part of generating sales with any list for that matter. Either way, it requires a lot of research.

Not only must you provide the most competitive content, but you must also maintain consistency. Consistency equals growth, as I have recently learned on Medium after neglecting my Medium posting for a while.
Generating Sales With a Viral Email List.
Well, obviously you want to redirect to an affiliate offer to earn a commission at some point, right?
This is why you are going to need some form of bridge page, or one-page website easily created with tools like Google Sites and Canva.
If you don’t know how to create a Google Site or use Canva to create one-page websites, there are hundreds of tutorial videos on YouTube.
You can include the link to the Google Site, or Canva website in Medium posts and publications, attracting visitors to your Google Site and website. From there they are redirected to your affiliate offer or offers.
Within your Medium publication, you can use something as simple as a text quote block and then provide the “source”. Redirecting to your bridge page or website.
But you NEVER share affiliate links directly, create free bridge pages and websites, and even free blogs if you have to. Basically any other indexable URL other than the affiliate offer.
With the Google Quiz Site method, you can redirect to multiple offers through a little creativity. But a topic for another time.
With your Medium publications set for passive income. You want to focus on Quora questions with high follower counts. Then answer them and redirect to your Medium publication at the end of your answer.
Avoid short and tasteless answers, posts, or content. Always create professional presentations, useful content, and curious design. The whole point is to attract attention and make your content stand out from the rest.
The quality of your content must make your visitors want to know more.
This is why images and video thumbnails for instance are so important. Because that is your opportunity to send a message that turns into an invitation through curiosity.
A curious audience is an active audience, and an active audience is a responsive audience. Presentation is everything.
