Life and Truth

3 Reasons You’re in a Never-Ending Dark Night of The Soul

The dark night isn't something you're thrown into

Leading myself instead of allowing myself to be led by the spirit was the greatest mistake I made when I first awakened. (Photo: Eleatell)

1. You’re Depending On Man for Guidance

When I first woke up, I was so tired of the religious dogma and narratives that I made a mistake. I put God aside and I put things like astrology and tarot in His place. And life hasn’t been working out very well.

What could I expect?

This isn’t to say that there’s a problem with Astrology or Tarot. There’s none. Astrology and tarot are great but it becomes a problem when I’m waking up in the morning reaching for a horoscope or tarotscope instead of reaching for God's word which is the only thing that can really heal my heart.

It becomes a problem when I’m looking to those things for guidance when those things are pointless without the divine wisdom to decipher what’s true and what taking me further away from the truth.

But I was lucky that I came back to my senses before following strange spiritual practices and routines while totally disregarding and disobeying God's word.

Spiritual awakening sends us on a quest for knowledge, but knowledge alone doesn’t lead to transformation. Doing the right things leads to transformation.

2. You Lost Sight Of What’s Most Important

When we first awaken, we have so much going on that we lose sight of the important things. Just because the church is annoying and can’t be trusted doesn’t mean God’s word can’t be trusted.

We get frustrated because we’re not seeing a change in our situation. All the spiritual practices and routines don’t seem to do anything at all to the heart.

God’s word can’t not be lived by. I tried it. It didn’t work out very well.

I can use astrology to understand even the craziest of persons and use my intuition to understand even the most complex of circumstances but besides all that, life wasn't improving.

I was still sad and depressed every day because I wasn’t looking in the direction I was supposed to be moving in. I had to go back to the basics before moving out of the dark night.

Astrology, meditation, visualization, tarot, and all the other tools are great for personal development but that alone can’t help you transform your life around. Isn’t transformation why we were chosen to awake?

Spiritual awakening sends us on a quest for knowledge, but knowledge alone doesn’t lead to transformation. Doing the right things leads to transformation.

Having a personal relationship with God in addition to astrology and tarot ensures we have a deeper trust and understanding in the practices we’re doing. If you don’t know what God says about something, it’s easy for you to be led into destruction. It’s easy to be led to sin.

Just because the church is annoying and can’t be trusted doesn’t mean God’s word can’t be trusted.

3. You’re Missing an Important Ingredient

I’ve had many people say they’re uncomfortable that I’m bringing God into my spiritual articles these days. They ask what's happening and if I'm going back to religion. I'm not. I'm going back to God. It's being the missing ingredient in this delicious meal I'm trying to make.

From the things I've gone through before and after awakening, knowledge about God and His word are the only things that have been missing. I wasn’t praying; I wasn’t studying the Bible, and I didn’t want to hear anything about the church.

I have amazing coaches and spiritual teachers to help. I have my intuition, which never let me down, but I didn't have the right spirit within me and my soul felt like it was still in bondage. Looking up to the teaching of man and leading myself instead of allowing myself to be led by the spirit was the greatest mistake I made when I first awakened.

Where the spirit of God is, there is freedom from the shackles and the chains of the past. In the same way, the Spirit helps us with our weaknesses and empowers us.

Having a personal relationship with God is important even when you’re annoyed by the church because it helps you take the meaning of everything you hear or read and discern what steps you need to take to get close to fulfilling your mission.

When you have a personal relationship with God and you keep His word close to your heart, it convicts and judges you as it reveals the motives of your heart so you can see the truth to your suffering.

The Dark Night Isn’t Something You’re Thrown Into

It's something you put yourself into because you're resisting divine transformation and relying on your own understanding. It happens so you can have a change of heart and return to what's most important.

A personal relationship with God helps you hear and understand what He’s trying to lead you to do. When you don't know what God's word says, you can't do what He’s called you to do.

True and long-lasting transformation occurs as you apply, obey, and live out God's truth and keep His words close to your heart. It’s the only way you can heal your heart from the pain and suffering of the past.

When you allow God to search your mind and your heart and fix what's broken, that's when true transformation takes place.

You awaken because God chose you to awaken, but putting your trust in man or leaning on your own understanding slows down your awakening process and keeps you in years of the dark night. Humans can lead you to your downfall, but God raises you up so you can reach for the mountain.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace — Romans 8:6.
