3 Reasons You Should Share Your Cybersecurity Knowledge On LinkedIn in 2024
Do not use LinkedIn just for sharing job updates in 2024 !

LinkedIn is one of the most rewarding AND frustrating platforms to be on in 2024
Rewarding in that it is easily the best platform to get started on if you want to build your unique brand in Cybersecurity
“pfft .. what would I want to do that ??” .. I hear you say
Consider this .. your Cybersecurity job is just that … a job that can be taken away at your employer’s discretion
Ask the thousands of people in tech jobs who discovered this reality in 2023 and 2024!
Unlike your job title and its perks, which vanish once you leave your job or get laid off .. your brand remains with you wherever you go.
Take the time to build your unique voice; I GUARANTEE it will pay off in the long run. .either by monetizing your skills or your brand landing you a much higher-paying cybersecurity job
And this is where the frustrating part comes in.
All too often, these are the posts I see from Cybersecurity professionals on LinkedIn:
- I am pleased to announce that I have passed XYZ certification
- I am pleased to announce I have joined XYZ company
- I am pleased to announce I have completed XYZ training
While there is nothing wrong with sharing this information .. it ignores the power of LinkedIn as a platform for sharing your cybersecurity knowledge.
In this article, I'm going over three simple reasons why you should start doing this in 2024.
1 — A Built-in User Base
LinkedIn differs from other platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok as it caters to working professionals.
Unlike these other platforms, where it can be a nightmare to stand out amidst fierce competition among millions of creators, LinkedIn offers a different landscape.
LinkedIn doesn’t care about or prioritize viral content, crazy stunts, or the latest fashion trends.
Instead, it focuses on fostering meaningful professional connections and facilitating knowledge-sharing among its user base.
As a content creator on LinkedIn, you don’t have to go through the hassle of building an audience from scratch.
The platform takes care of that for you.
I shared cybersecurity advice regularly and was awarded the “Top Voice” badge on LinkedIn in Jan 2024
This demonstrates how LinkedIn’s algorithms and user base can propel your content to reach a huge number of genuinely interested professionals in the insights and expertise you offer.
2 — The Barrier For Entry Is (EXTREMELY) Low
To get started on LinkedIn, you do not need:
- Thousands of followers
- Crazy video editing skills
- Graphic design skills
- Instagram model looks
All you need to do is share compelling content that adds value, specifically in your area of expertise, like Cybersecurity.
There is no need for complex visuals or flashy videos — your focus is on providing meaningful insights and information.
Make a content calendar and commit to posting once a day for the next 30 days, and see the results!
By consistently sharing valuable content, you’ll begin to see the results on LinkedIn.
Remember, the platform is designed to highlight expertise and foster professional connections, so your commitment to providing valuable content will attract the right audience and help you establish your professional credibility.
3 — LinkedIn wants you to succeed!
LinkedIn has made some major revamps to its algorithm in 2023 and 2024
It wants relevant and informative content on the platform to spread and viral and clickbaity posts to decrease.
It is prioritizing content from people users know and care about and content grounded in knowledge and advice.
User preferences for valuable and meaningful content drive this change. As a result, posts from people users follow have seen increased visibility, leading to a 10% rise in post views.
Secondly and more importantly, posts containing knowledge and advice are now given higher priority throughout the platform.
LinkedIn’s system evaluates posts to determine if they offer genuine expertise and insights and then showcases them to users who may find the information relevant and useful.
Since this change, there has been a nearly 40% increase in users exploring knowledge-based content from individuals outside their network.
There you have it .. If you serious about building your own brand as a Cybersecurity Thought Leader then LinkedIn might be the best place to do it.
Good luck on your journey !
