Yesterday evening there was a small event at my village. Two good musicians and a speaker organized a concert doing the covers of Beatles songs. They were also showing pictures of records sleeves.

I decided I wanted to go, but it was late and not wanting to bother with my appearance, I thought I would not take care of my looks, and went there wearing an old jacket, old jeans, my hair was unwashed, and of course I wore no makeup.

I had to run to get there on time, and luckily, I was the last one to enter. Luckily because just the row before me, I saw my ex-boyfriend with a girl. What were they doing there? I thought nobody knew about this event. Actually, I was wrong, and the place was packed.

They didn’t notice me because they were looking at the stage. He was wearing a nice jumper and from where I was standing, he looked good. She was elegant and her hair looked perfect, she seemed much younger than him — and me.

Now, our relationship had finished a long time ago, I didn’t have feelings and I was not jealous or sad or anything else.

I was afraid the lights could switch on and they could see me as a desperate housewife. Maybe it’s just matter of personal pride, but if you meet a person once in ten years, you are not very happy if he thinks you are much older and looking worse than before.

I didn’t want him to think: ‘I am happy it’s over… she is so ugly…’ , or maybe his girlfriend could think: ‘Is she the beautiful ex-girlfriend I should be afraid of?’

I spent the evening trying to avoid our eyes meeting, and as soon as I realized the party was over, I left the place and ran home.

Why is taking care of yourself so important, after all?

1-You will feel better, stronger and more at ease

2-You will share your energy and your light, you will smile and give positive emotions to other people, you don’t need to hide in a corner like I did yesterday

3-You will enjoy the moment without thinking about what you should have done before going there

I guess the moral of the story is: it doesn’t hurt to be looking well, even if it’s just for the grocery shop!
