3 Reasons Why Daily Writing Has Nothing to Do With Writing Every Day

The secret behind why people write daily

Okay, hear me out.

You need to start writing online every day. You’ve maybe heard this a hundred times before. But the truth is that writing online has nothing to do with writing every day.

Sure, it will help you become a better writer. Sure, it may help you find new clients. But writing online has more benefits than the obvious low hanging fruit.

Writing online daily is like unlocking a new door in the matrix. It takes your life to new levels you would have never reached.

And I want to share those benefits with you.

Here are three hidden secrets behind why writing online daily is maybe the closest thing we have to superpowers.

Build a daily writing habit and the world will be yours

I am only half kidding here.

If you can build a daily writing habit, you can build a daily anything habit.

Writing daily takes discipline, hard work, the willingness to control your mind to get a specific job done. Writing daily will become a keystone habit that will flow into other areas of your life.

Forget the excuse about not having enough time to write. The more you write, the more you will shape your life around it, and the more you will make time to write.

Writing online is the art of scaling yourself

What do I mean by that?

Remember all these times you asked someone to go for coffee or have a call to network. You went through the same exact pitch every time: “I’ve been working in digital marketing for 5 years and help startups entire new markets. I focus primarily on the real estate industry and would love to know how I can help your business do XYZ.”

You’ve probably said the same pitch 500 times at this point — who’s counting?

But do you know what would help solve that?

An online presence.

Something that puts you on the map daily so that people know what you stand for and how you can bring them value.

Think about all those people you see on Medium who have been writing daily and popping up on your feed constantly. They are effectively branding themselves as “The Marketing Guy”, “The Finance Girl”, “The [insert any industry] Guy/Girl”.

Think inspirational stuff? Ayodeji Awosika comes to mind.

Think humor? Sarah Paris comes to mind.

Think critical analysis of feminism? Katie Jgln comes to mind.

By writing daily, those people have forever established themselves in the minds of readers and therefore it becomes much easier for them to be read. They become part of the readers' daily routine and that’s the ultimate level one can reach as a creator. Enough with the networking calls or emails, they have infinitely scaled themselves. No need for intros anymore, their online work serves as an intro into their minds.

Writing daily helps with creativity and your mental health

“The accumulation of things not spelled out, not properly articulated, may result in neurosis.” — Joseph Brodsky

What is writing if it is not simply the process of thinking through your own ideas and laying them on paper for someone else to understand what’s going on in your head?

The truth is that this process will not only help someone else, but it will help you the most. It will force you to think rationally about the cluttered thoughts flowing in your head and construct a structure that makes sense. It will make you take the appropriate time to look at your ideas from different perspectives and potentially allow you to combine or create new ideas while doing so.

This process will help you shut down that inner voice that’s always talking to you and focus on teaching that voice about how to think in a structured way. I can’t think of a more helpful way to prevent neurosis.
