Or any phone.
3 Reasons For Going Caseless with the New iPhone 15
I haven’t used a case for years, here are three reasons why going caseless is an option.
I understand that many people prefer using protective cases for their phones, and that’s perfectly reasonable. However, there are several compelling reasons why I believe going caseless is a wise choice, especially if you have Apple Care+.

So hear me out. I conducted a casual survey among my friends and colleagues (nothing representative), and here are the top three reasons they prefer going caseless.
Reducing Bulk and Weight
Many phone cases are stylish and offer excellent protection, but they often add noticeable bulk and weight to the device. This becomes especially significant with cases that have added features, such as intricate designs or rugged exteriors. For instance, I have a special case for mounting my iPhone on my e-bike, but the extra weight and thickness have made me leave it behind more frequently or just not mounting my iPhone, because it was just ridiculous to stuff it into my pants.
Embracing MagSafe
I’m a big fan of MagSafe and wireless charging just like my iPhone friends, and I use them regularly. I’ve placed MagSafe stands throughout my home and car, and I love the convenience of being able to charge my iPhone by simply placing it on these stands. Non-MagSafe cases lack the necessary magnets to securely hold the iPhone on the stand, and particularly thick cases can obstruct wireless charging as well, which can affect charging efficiency.
Reducing Plastic Waste
Most phone cases are crafted from plastic. Over time, they can become dirty or, in the case of more affordable options, they may break, prompting replacement with another plastic case. This cycle results in a substantial amount of wasted resources. Going caseless reduces plastic waste and contributes to a smaller carbon footprint.
In the past, I used leather cases with my iPhone to avoid plastic. However, I later realized that leather production isn’t the most environmentally friendly option either. So, I made the switch to going entirely caseless years ago. I also support Apple’s decision to discontinue offering leather cases.
What’s the alternative?
You might argue that iPhones are expensive and they should be protected, and you’d be correct. However, investing in insurance like Apple Care+ is a valuable alternative in my opinion. While it does involve a significant cost (on a monthly basis or prepaid for two years), the peace of mind that comes from no longer worrying about accidental damage is, in my opinion, priceless. Many other companies offer similar insurance options as well.
Certainly, there are certain occupations or environments where using a phone case is essential for protecting your device. However, I believe that the average consumer could consider the option of going without a case (+ Apple Care+) and appreciating the iPhone’s obvious beauty.

In Conclusion
With Apple Care+, I no longer fear about potential damage (of course this is just my experience and others might be more protective). The iPhone is a beautifully designed piece of hardware, and leaving it uncovered is a wonderful experience (touching the 15s titanium frame is a pleasure imho). I wholeheartedly agree with the three reasons mentioned above, and I’m pleased that many of my friends share the same perspective.
