3 Profound Reasons why your Authentic Self is Remarkable
Finding the true self and the power of inspiration.
“Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.” -Allen Ginsberg
The exceptional being in the depths of your soul is more than enough. Your authentic self in the unique and creative capacity belongs to you alone.
The unique expression, thoughts, and ideas are a genuine stamp of DNA that is uniquely you as an individual in a world of 8 billion beings.
Your worth and your belonging isn’t a negotiation with the world.
Keep your worth and your identity in your personal ideological safe. Only you know the combination of who you are as a unique and creative individual.
Often, during childhood, we listen and adhere to the preferences of others. This slows our ability to metabolize information and apply it uniquely to ourselves. Instead, we apply the knowledge the way we are expected which leads to identity misconceptions and career missteps.
“If I manipulate who I am for the world then I no longer belong to myself”, is the idea that we cannot become something for someone as there is authentic capacity in the heart of the individual.
True belonging and self-value are not goods to be sold or traded. The center of your being is not a commodity and cannot be bargained.
“When you choose to fit in rather than belonging to yourself, life becomes painful.” -Brene Brown
Being authentic is remarkable and becoming your true self is magic captivating the world around you.
There is nothing more authentic than creativity. Creativity in the modern world will always be an attraction for critics. What will your critics say?
The single largest detractor for becoming your authentic self is outside criticism. There is nothing more vulnerable than being creative. Vulnerability is honey to the bees swarming in an engulfing deluge of criticisms. However, without vulnerability, you cannot create. Therefore, criticism is inevitable.
We all have to possess the courage to place ourselves in the arena of vulnerability. Never place focus on the critics. We have no control over our critics. The artist cannot worry about what cannot be controlled. Courage must be a value.
When we share ourselves with other people we are vulnerable to criticism. Rather than locking out the critics, we need to reserve space for them. Understand their words without succumbing to rhetoric.
Public cynicism directed personally at your creativity is a sole being reflecting on what they wanted to become.
Become cognizant of your space and reserve it for supporters. This is when we need to have genuine loved ones that are endearing and allow us to shake off our failures.
People with true courage know who the critics are and still show up with ideas. It’s not about the battle for our creativity in the world but about being here and being seen in our work and life.
“Don’t walk through the world looking for evidence that you don’t belong, because you will always find it. Don’t walk through the world looking for evidence that you’re not enough, because you will always find it.”–Brene Brown
We know creating anything of substance is strongly correlated with vulnerability. Vulnerability is a component of joy, love, and satisfaction. Satisfaction can manifest by sharing value with others. This leads me to three reasons why the authentic self is remarkable.
1. Life vs Time. Our life has a finite relationship with time. While we are living as our authentic selves we build with ambition toward our goals. When we disrupt our identity, we waste time portraying what we think others want. Purpose and authenticity are key components for living a satisfying life and permit us peace.
2. Imperfection Reflection. There isn’t a perfect person. The expression nobody’s perfect has become a mindless truism passed down from one generation to the next. Everyone has flaws, failures, and imperfections. This is what makes us unique. The imperfections form the individual that has experienced failure and embraced personal flaws. Failures allow us to learn and apply the data exclusively to our genetic disposition. Living fully with your unique brand of yourself makes someone authentic in nature.
3. Success. Presenting our authentic self exponentially increases success. This doesn’t necessarily mean splattering the secrets of your soul metaphorically on life’s canvas. However, relationships are successful due to trusting the special components and qualities of an individual. When we allow others to see who we are in a unique sense, we will find meaningful relationships in our personal and professional life.
Pulling away from the crowd and standing on your own, although difficult, will certainly give a feeling of euphoric success.
In the absence of belonging there is always suffering. Disconnection and loneliness tell us we need actual social interaction in the presence of other humans.
A depleted social existence is scientifically associated with a shorter life span. Loneliness now is a pandemic inside of an already existing pandemic. The good news is that our creativity and our authenticity have the power to save humanity from loneliness.
Our art has the ability to change loneliness and capture pain. History has shown us that great art renders hope in a state of disorder and despair. This is the remedy that can carry in your heart and resonate through your authentic self to the world around you.
The act of living authentically is an act of lending your exceptional self to the universe and in concert, creating comfort in knowing the mastery of your truest form.
