3 Practical Things That Strengthen My Self-Love

Self-love is a never ending, non-linear journey. While we may occasionally do something nice for ourselves, we tend to more frequently fall into self-sabotaging patterns.. Self-love therefore requires consistency and discipline just like any other good thing in life.
In this journey, I discovered methods to sustain and bolster my self love.
1. Engaging my creativity
Being creative is the peak state of my me-time. I disconnect from the noise around me, and turn towards the noise within — turning it into something beautiful.
Creativity is about understanding the energies that you’re composed of, and learning to deal with them in a constructive way.
You could have ADHD. You could have anxeity. Or you could have a brain that doesn’t have the off switch.
But when you sit down with those energies, and channelize them into something tangible, creative magic happens.
Some of the most unique content creators I know have ADHD. It’s not ADHD that makes them the best in their field. It’s that they channelled it.
At the end of the day, getting to the depths of yourself through your creative process is healing and nurturing.
2. Taking care of my belongings
Belongings are just non-living pieces of mass that we happen to accumulate. But if they were just objects, why do we feel like shit when we accidentally lose them?
Because our belongings become little extensions of ourselves.
We are attached to them. We are sentimental beings. It’s not just about the item. It’s about the memories you have with it, the phase you bought it in, the hard-earned money you spent on it.
During my vacation, I messed up and lost my favorite cap.
I felt like crap.
I had to move on from that feeling by looking at my other neglected belongings and giving them some care to balance it out.
Recently, I got myself a clever cleaning tool for my airpods. Since then, my airpods have been squeaky clean more often than not (if you have them, you know how gross they can get).
I ironed my clothes, I organized my closet, I cleaned my laptop screen. I invited the tidy and clutter-free vibes.
These activities are boring little parts of my week. But the effect on my self-love is significant.
Take care of your stuff.
3. Maintaining the Momentum of New Habits
We all fall off-track from our new routines at some point, but there’s a certain window that still allows us to catch the train while it’s about to leave the platform.
That’s the momentum window.
I published for 7 days straight at one point this month. Then I couldn’t for 2 days. But I knew that the 3rd day was my last chance to publish to save my momentum from completing crashing. Beyond that 3rd day, I self-sabotage my own progress. So I published.
It’s like how the gears work for an automobile. If you become too slow, you have to switch to a lower gear to speed you up again. It’s gonna drink some fuel, again.
But you can pickup in the same gear if you slowed down only a little bit. You save your fuel.
It’s not so much about working out everyday to get those abs. It’s about how you’re not skipping your workouts or letting an old bad habit fill that gap in your day, causing you to burn more fuel and start from zero again.
Trust the routine that your past self planned out for you.
