3 People Skills That Can Increase Your Chances of Success In Life

The better you succeed with people, the easier you will achieve success in life.

These are skills that help you attract people and to build reliable and high-value relationships that will last| PXEL

People and the relationships you form with them are significant elements of your success journey. Because we all need opportunities to succeed in life.

Most of these opportunities come through the relationships and people in our lives.

There are two things I want you to know about people, our relationships with them and life opportunities:

  • First, no matter how hard you try, you won’t make much out of your effort and hard work without opportunities that can help you maximize the value of that skill or hard work.

The takeaway here is, opportunities are necessary to maximize our skills and efforts towards success.

  • Second, the opportunities you have in your life can’t be better than the quality of people and relationships in your life.

The takeaway is this: Even if people are important sources of opportunities; you need the right people to bring in the right opportunities that will give more value to your skills and hard work. Else, you may still end up with an average life.

A life advice

Learn how to attract people. But most importantly, learn to attract and keep the right people. That is a secret to success that people who think that hard work is the only secret to success don’t know.

If you couple this skill with hard work, you will have an edge in life as you learn to have success with people and get more out of your hard work.

These are skills that help you attract people and to build reliable and high-value relationships that will last:

1. The skill that makes you attractive and comfortable to be around with

Humans possess a natural tendency to move away from discomfort to a place more convenient. That means if you make people comfortable around you, they will stay.

If your vibes are toxic to them, they will leave you for someone more receptive and accommodating.

To lose the right relationship or person is to lose an asset of immense value to success.

The first step to retaining people and their relationships in your life is to make them comfortable around you.

How?

Make people feel important.

A friend of mine is a master at this. This skill has earned him a lot of friends. He has friends both in my department and other departments in the college of medicine.

I can't tell how valuable his network has been to his career as a person. But what I can say is that his network has been a major component of his career success.

But what aided him to have such an extensive network of people?

People first mentality.

Even if he is older and the most intelligent guy in the college of medicine, he takes the spotlight off his intelligence and achievements when he is around you.

Instead, he takes time to know you, identify your strengths or something plausible about you and express how fortunate you are to have that skill. He reveals how valuable what you have is. This attitude of his somehow boosts your healthy self-esteem and self-confidence.

Personally, I feel better each time we sit to talk and share ideas.

You too can make people comfortable around you

Build people’s healthy self-esteem. Or at least don’t threaten their self-esteem with your success and achievement. Instead, make them feel they are the most important person in the room. Nothing else makes you more attractive and gets people comfortable being around you.

2. The skill that helps you build deep human relationships

Be trustworthy.

Trust is a cardinal asset to your success.

Trust is the foundation upon which we build deep human relationships. And then, these relationships serve as conduits for most of the opportunities that come into our lives.

That’s why it is said that your network determines your net worth. The reason being that the proven power and influence of human connection in building wealth, reaching success, and fostering happiness can never be overstated.

"Psychology says that part of human nature’s default mode is to be social. According to one theory — people have an innate (and powerful) need to form and maintain strong interpersonal relationships.

Heaps of research suggest that social connections make people happier. Satisfying relationships not only makes people happy, but they also associated with better health and even longer life." — Thomas Oppong, Good Social Relationships Are the Most Consistent Predictor of a Happy Life.

You two can foster high-value and deep human relationships.

One way is to be true to your word and follow through with your actions. Never say more than you’re capable of or just throwing big words around to show off. Instead, say little and keep to your words. Promise little. Deliver much.

You will come through as a reliable person. Someone worth building deep human relationships with.

3. The skill that makes you unforgettable

Being unforgettable is about making memorable effects in people’s lives. It is making an impact in people’s life that leaves an imprint on their memories.

Being unforgettable is an asset to your future. Why do I say so? Because it is to your advantage that you come up in people’s minds each time they are alone with their thoughts. That they just can’t neglect a key role you played in their journey to success.

Most times, it doesn’t even have to be huge.

John P. Weiss will ever remain unforgettable in the history of my success.

For me, John P. Weiss is a classical example. I never can forget him in the history of my success as a content creator. He led me to Medium and writing at Medium changed my life.

You too can be unforgettable

Look for a way to be of value to the people in your life. Preferably a problem in their lives you can help them fix; an opportunity you feel will be of immense value to them; a smile to a stranger, a warm handshake, a word of encouragement to someone in distress; a helping hand to someone in need.

These are little things that have a profound impact on people’s memories. They are a surefire way to become unforgettable.

Final thought

Success in life is beyond working harder than everyone else. You need people as well.

Why? Because one is too small a number to be great.

You need the corporation of others to achieve greatness in life. And one way is by learning to succeed with people.

The better success you have with people, the greater your opportunities for success in your personal life and career.

Learn how to succeed with people. This is a proven trait that will give you an edge towards achieving success in life.

Cheers!
