Time is of the essence, some use it wisely and some waste it.

There are many articles, books, and blog posts about morning routines.

But there still seems to be a lot of confusion around what is the best practice for starting your day.

One article may say meditation is the key to success, while another says it’s writing down your thoughts on paper before you eat breakfast.

Some people say they will never start their day without a cup of coffee, while others swear by green juice as their #1 go-to drink.

The truth is that there isn’t one perfect answer to the “What should I do first thing in the morning?” question.

There are a lot of things that can help us feel refreshed and ready to take on the day! Here, are some ideas for morning self-care that may work!

Breakfast Ideas

I try to plan out my breakfast the night before to save time and money. I plan out my days ahead of time to make them as efficient as possible.

My favorite meal of the day is a quick and easy fruit bowl.

It consists of several pieces of fruit with fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, and plums.

It takes maybe 10 minutes to throw together and I always have it on hand.

I’m sure you can think of lots of other easy-to-make breakfasts that would also work! What are you planning for breakfast?

With only a few minutes of my morning to prepare my healthy breakfast, I try to choose the best ingredients.

Many farms and co-ops sell organic, seasonal produce right at the farmer’s market.

Exercise Routines

Whether it’s a morning walk, morning yoga, or a HIIT session, getting up and going somewhere can make a huge difference in your mindset and energy levels.

When you exercise regularly, your body starts producing more endorphins that promote a sense of well-being.

You can also stimulate your mind by doing an activity you love.

Even though the stairs are hard, walking up to the first thing in the morning is still better than climbing them later on in the day, when your body feels like crap.

Watch a TV Show. Research shows that it’s not so much the physical act of watching the show that helps you unwind.

However, the release of feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine makes the experience a bit more restorative.

If you watch something funny, there’s a good chance you’ll laugh out loud.

Mental Relaxation Techniques

For my personal use, I will normally try to exercise in the morning (or try to at least). With all the working, traveling, and running, this is what I do to release some of the stress.

It is important to have a balance of relaxing and taking care of yourself physically.

If exercise and eating well are your biggest focuses, you should be able to work out in the morning.

If they aren’t the big focuses for you, you should probably incorporate something like — listening to calming music or nature sounds app while exercising to help with mental relaxation may get you in the right mindset for the day.

Wake up early (For a Few Minutes) It is important to give yourself enough time in the morning to be fully present.

The Final Thoughts

This list has certainly been helpful to me. I find it helpful to remind myself that self-care starts with me.

Whether I meditate, go for a run, or focus on my breathing, I know that I am taking care of myself first, and this sets a good foundation for the rest of my day.
