3 Months Ago I Got Serious About Writing, Here’s What Happened

Even I was surprised with the results.

A little over a year ago, I discovered Medium after someone on Reddit said they were doing well and it was a good place to make “Beer money” or basically small amounts of money to buy things like beer on the weekend. I thought it was intriguing and made an account. At first, I just wrote a bunch of random things but didn't take it too seriously. Eventually, I started to niche down, but after varied success, I would only write a few articles a month, and some months even less than that.

After about 8 months of not really trying very hard to promote my writing or take it seriously, I decided to change that. I published this story, marking the beginning of actually getting serious about writing:

After writing from my first story in February to November, I managed to gain 166 followers, which also included when the partner program started requiring 100 members and people began following easier. However, beginning in December, after really hunkering down on writing, that started changing FAST:

I gained more followers in the 3 months after than the 8 months prior, and now I am on track to gain more followers over the course of every single months than my first 8 months combined. Now, I am not making crazy amounts of money from this or anything, but I have actually started doing much better. In fact, my earnings have an even better story

From making 6 cents in November to clearing $275 in March. While this isn’t life-changing money, that is enough to pay my electric bill and a good amount of groceries for the month.

Moral of the Story

I would definitely say that if you want to actually make any money worth anything on this site, you need to take it seriously. I still find this enjoyable but I also have been actively working and making sure I am consistently growing. I made a plan and stuck to it, and it has since started paying off.
