3 Lessons I Learned From Publishing 170+ Articles

3 Insights from posting 170 articles in under 3 months

Source: Bing Image Creator

I’ve written 170 articles on Medium since signing up for the platform in late November of 2023. Some articles I’ve published have been successful, some haven’t, some of them I loved writing, and others, I didn’t.

But I have learned some valuable lessons from writing and consistently putting out posts, here are the top 3.

Hidden Growth

It’s obvious, but when you are writing each day you forget that you are naturally improving your writing. Even basic things can help your posts perform much better. For example, just a month ago I was making my subtitles the same size as my title. Meaning I just had big random title-sized pieces of text throughout my work. I look back and see how bad it looks.

Now I don’t do that, and I barely noticed I’d made the change. Now add several other small changes I’ve made with both structure and writing technique and you can see that hidden growth starts to come out.

Play the Long Game

When you start writing on Medium it’s important to play the long game. I still have articles that earn me money today, In the middle of February that I wrote in December. You are building a blog portfolio, and creating a catalogue for readers to consume when they find your account.

Never forget that one article means nothing, and neither does five, or ten. Once you start writing forget about numbers. Just write and focus on improving. The numbers will take care of themselves.

Some will Suck

I’m sure you knew this lesson would be in here when you read the title, and yes, some of your posts will suck dusty butt cheeks.

There is nothing we can do to prevent this, we all think we’ve smashed it out of the park with a post, only for it to completely flop. Don’t let it get to you and keep a consistent output no matter the results. Obviously, if you have been writing a long time and the results are still low, it might be time for a change here and there.

But keep in mind that not every post you publish is going to do well. Some simply won’t. Even if they are better quality than your other work. The algorithm works in mysterious ways!

Just keep on going and eventually, you will see the fruit of your labor. Yes, some articles will suck, and some will go to the moon!
