3 Interesting Facts I Learned This Week
You may find it just as intriguing and interesting as I did.
If you know me, then you know I love learning as much as I can. Most of the time, I find myself digging deeper into the bowels of Wikipedia. When I find something interesting, I verify it with more searches.
I am normally surprised about the information I find, but it’s all true. It happened once again this week. Here are 4 interesting facts I learned:
1. Barbie Was Married to Hot Wheels
Okay, she wasn’t actually married to Hot Wheels. Who would marry a car? However, her creator Ruth Handler was married to Elliot Handler for many years, who created Hot Wheels. Crazy, right?
The couple became some of the most well-known toy creators in the world, eventually founding the Mattel toy company. Who would’ve thought that the best girl’s toy and the best boy’s toy came from the minds of this unknown couple?
You can read more about it here.
2. Twitter Came from Small Town America
This past week, we all know that Elon Musk purchased Twitter for around $44 billion. This is not about the Musk, but rather about the origins of the social media platform.
It wouldn’t have been made possible without the genius of Ev William, one of its co-founders, who also created Medium. Did you know that he comes from small-town America? It’s Clarks, Nebraska to be exact.
The town’s population nears 400 people, and all that’s there is a high school, gas station, a few churches, and some other businesses. It’s crazy to think that Musk’s historic purchases wouldn’t have happened without Williams creating Twitter and him coming from this small American town.
3. You Can Create Your Own Museum — Even at Home
If you know me, then you know I also collect autographs. I have been studying up on it for years, becoming more diverse in the field. However, this is not about autographs. I collect something else too: University of Illinois memorabilia.
Much of it is sports but other items include a bowling pin from the Illini Union, a Daily Illini newsstand, and a 1952 graduation letter. The collection is growing each day and the ultimate goal is to turn it into a museum, whether out of my own home or somewhere else. This week, I learned more about it.
This step-by-step guide showed me how to turn my collection into a museum in just 10 steps. This project will be years in the making, but I am ready for what the future holds with this.
