Crazy Email Marketing Myth #1: Email Marketing is DEAD!
You hear it almost every day: email marketing is DEAD!
Have you ever noticed this is only said by those who want to sell you the next great thing to replace email marketing? The funny part is they email you to tell you about it!
The Reality: Email Marketing is alive and kicking and profitable.
Just don’t do it like some of the slick Goo-Roos who email you with the new latest greatest offer every day. That kind of email deserves to die.
Serve your community. Provide value. You’ll do just fine.
Crazy Email Marketing Myth #2: The Scarcity Fear
One of the above mentioned “mail the latest greatest offer every day” folks actually told me this face to face at a workshop where I was speaking:
“I mail my list an offer every day because I don’t know how long this is going to last so I want to get the most money out of them in the shortest time possible!”
Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me and a great way to kill your list as well.
The Reality: It’s simple, really:
“Take great care of your email list community and they will take great care of you”
I could make it harder and sound more complicated than that, but why?
Email Marketing Myth #3: List Size is the Most Important Factor
This one keeps a lot of people from ever trying to grow a list.
While it’s great to have a huge list, many who fall for this myth compile huge lists of non-buyers just so they can win the list size “pissing contest” at some conferences.
The Reality: The most important factor is not list size. The most important factor is list responsiveness.
How do you create a responsive list? By serving them, providing great value, and taking great care of your members.
Always remember:
“Take great care of your list community and your list community will take great care of you”
