3 Awesome Books You Can Read In A Day

Short books can make a big impact on your life

I agree with people who say size doesn’t matter. However, that wasn’t always the case…

I used to believe that you need to spend several days or weeks reading a single book. It wasn’t worth borrowing from the library if it was short. At least, that was the impression I got from intellectuals who constantly boasted about reading long books with thousands of pages.

Here’s the thing: Reading isn’t supposed to be a dick-measuring contest to see who can read the longest book. Nor is it meant to prove that you’re smarter than other people. Anyone who claims those things is missing the point.

Now, I recognize that reading is supposed to be fun, enjoyable, and extremely relaxing. So with all of that in mind, I want to share several interesting books that you can binge-read in less than a day.

1) Everyone’s a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too by Jommy Sun

My girlfriend and I read this book together in less than an hour.

It’s a beautiful story about an alien sent to observe planet Earth — where he learns important lessons on love, happiness, and other aspects of life.

After reading this illustrated book, you’ll learn more about what it means to be human. You’ll also learn how to find love, acceptance, and happiness by appreciating the small things in life. And, of course, you’ll laugh, smile, and cry as you progress through the book.

“There are many reasons to be sad. You may be sad because you feel alone. The comforting thing about feeling lonely is that everything that has ever existed also knows what loneliness feels like too. You may be sad because you are sad. It is ok to be sad but if you are sad because happiness is fleeting, just remember that sadness is also fleeting too.” — Jommy Sun

2) Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko Willink

After serving as a Navy SEAL in the Iraq War, Jocko has become one of the most respected public figures in North America (and the world). He’s also written a New York Times Bestselling book called Extreme Ownership.

This book is a practical guide that anyone can learn from to become more disciplined throughout daily life. For example, Jocko Willink discusses strategies that Navy SEALs use to wake up early, avoid procrastination, and achieve goals when the stakes are literally life or death.

In essence, Discipline Equals Freedom is perfect for anyone wanting to become more productive. And the best part? It’s only 189 pages.

“Humans can withstand almost inconceivable stress — and you can too. So that is your first step: Gain perspective. And to do that, you must do something critical in many situations: Detach. Whatever problems or stress you are experiencing, detach from them. Stress is generally caused by what you can’t control.” — Jocko Willink

3) This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay

Over the past couple of years, many people have developed a newly-found sense of gratitude for medical staff who work tirelessly in hospitals. Despite (often) receiving mediocre pay, they continue to save lives and help our loved ones recover from horrific injuries or diseases.

I’ll be honest with you and admit that my expectations for this book were somewhat average. However, I’m not exaggerating when I say it ended up being one of the best books I ever read. Plus, it’s written in a diary format, so it’s extremely easy to read.

This is Going to Hurt will make you cry during one page and laugh the next. It also provides an amazing insight into the work ethic and stamina needed to run a hospital — while dealing with bureaucracy and funding issues.

“The hours are terrible, the pay is terrible, the conditions are terrible; you’re underappreciated, unsupported, disrespected, and frequently physically endangered. But there’s no better job in the world.” — Adam Kay

You can read all of the above books in less than a day because they’re pretty short. So, if you want to spend a few hours (or the entire day) reading awesome books, consider giving them a shot. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy them just as much as I did.
