You’re not too late for your 2021 fitness goals

You may have started your fitness goals at the beginning of the year only to lose out on the momentum a few weeks later. And hey, that’s okay, we still have two-thirds of the year left. We’re currently in the middle of the pandemic and it’s okay for you to cut yourself some slack and attend to other important responsibilities.

If it’s still somewhere on your mind to get back on track, here are the three apps that can help you with it. You don’t need equipment and you can do this from the safety of your home.

I know there are lots of free alternatives available, but in my last 7 years of working out regularly, I’m yet to find free content which helps you progress up the ladder with high-quality workouts.

Plus, investing less than $0.50 a day on your body is nothing for the returns you will get — preventing your body of thousands of diseases and illnesses, alleviated mental health, higher confidence, and of course, the body that makes you feel good about yourself.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Beachbody on Demand

BOD has been long in the market and has popular workouts such as Insanity, P90X and 21 Day Fix. Their workout programs are on-demand but the popular ones can range anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks and from 7 to 60 minutes.

They also give you a printable workout calendar and diet portion planning tips for your diet. Popular trainers here include Shaun T, Autumn Calabrese, Joel Freeman, and Tony Horton, amongst others.

Who is it for? The good thing is that it’s the only place I have seen that caters to everyone’s needs. Whether you have the equipment or just want bodyweight exercises, kickboxing or traditional weightlifting, different workout each day or a repetitive progression plan, there’s something for everybody.

You’d like it if you’re into any (or all) of the following:

  • Burn fat
  • HIIT lovers
  • Build lean (or bulky) muscle
  • Low-impact workouts
  • Yoga and meditation
  • Kids’ workouts

My favourite programs are LIIFT4 for low impact fat burn + muscle building, PiYo for low-impact burns, and Insanity Max 30 and 21 Day Fix Extreme when I really need to shred down. I’ve seen significant results with these workouts.

Whether you’re a beginner or a pro (try The Work), there is something for everybody.

2. Alo Moves

Here, most workouts are on-demand and programs range from 3 to 30 days. Workout duration also varies, and you can easily find a length that fits your needs.

They have workouts ranging from yoga to strength to HIIT but are popular for their specialisation in yoga. What I liked was the various videos on skill progression for various yoga holds and inversions so if that’s your thing, you’ll enjoy skilling up your game.

The website is minimalistic and very easy to navigate. You can put filters on the type of workouts you want and their intensity and choose from lots of them. I especially liked that there are workout reviews mentioned, which helped me decide if I really want to do a particular program.

Overall, I didn’t enjoy my time with Alo Moves but that’s because I like longer programs which are at least 8 weeks long. The trial is long enough for you to experiment and decide if this is what you want.

3. Sweat

Kayla Itsines has been in the fitness industry for a really long time. She is rated as the world’s #1 fitness influencer and Times placed her under the 30 most influential people on the internet alongside Kanye West, DJ Khaled, J. K. Rowling, Drake, and Kim K. to name a few.

She started by releasing a single program called Bikini Body Guide (BBG) mention date which is a zero-equipment at-home workout. What happened next was millions of women creatiing waves on social media about how the workout helped them.

She started with Bikini Body Guide in 2016. What followed were waves created by millions of women across social media showing their transformations. Kayla has come a long way since.

Today, the Sweat app boasts several workouts. I do like that they don’t have way too many workouts, making it difficult to choose what to do, but a few highly specialised workouts. With the pandemic, they have also introduced at-home versions of their popular workouts.

The app is interactive and fun.

Sadly, you can’t work out via your laptop, so it gets a little lonely if you’re somebody who gets motivated by seeing others work out on the screen.

One USP about Sweat is the community. You have a portal where you can interact with other people, which can be super empowering for many of us.

Cost

  • 12 months: $119
  • Monthly: $19.99
  • Free trial: 7 days
