3 Amazing Secrets to Create Your Personal Roadmap to Success
Your Dreams to Your Reality
Once you know who you are and where you are at, as well as who you want to become and where you are going, it’s time to build your personal roadmap.
The road forward is rarely linear. It is filled with bumps and curves as well as unanticipated detours. Your personal roadmap will allow you to chart your course, step by step. It will allow you to plan ahead for those bumps and curves and it will prepare you for the unanticipated detours.
As you see yourself progressing towards your unique life vision, you will find yourself energized.
Success breeds success. Momentum occurs. Confidence soars.
Why a Road Map?
Before GPS when you wanted to get from point A to point B you looked at a map. You determined the roads to take and where to turn. Finding more than one alternative, you selected the alternative you preferred. Periodically you had your “navigator” check the map to insure you were still on course.
Creating a road map for achieving your vision and seeing your dreams become real is actually very similar. Looking towards your ultimate goal — your vision — divide your vision into its different components (see The 7 Pillars of a Happy & Successful Life for suggestions).
For each component, identify what your vision looks like and what incremental steps will be required to get there. Each of these incremental steps will be a smaller goal. They will be stepping stones leading you to your ultimate vision for that portion of your life.
Each Stepping stone represents a step towards the realization of your dream. As such each of these steps, when completed, represent a check point to assure you that you are on course towards achieving your dream.
Amazing Secret #1 on Your Personal Roadmap to Success — Identifying Your Vision
We often hear things about the importance of passion as a driving force in our lives. It has the potential to be incredibly powerful but how do we figure out what it really is?
When you use The 7 Pillars of a Happy & Successful Life you will explore what success looks like to you in each of these pivotal areas … personal. physical, emotional, spiritual, professional, financial, and relationships.
When you have completed your personal assessment or what success looks like to you in each one of these areas you will have a very comprehensive document.
It may feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. First review the various goals you have set. Because you have focused on individual areas it is possible that you will find that some of your goals actually conflict with each other.
If that is the case, step back and visualize your ultimate priorities and determine what you need to do to adjust one or both of these goals so they so they are compatible.
The next step involves looking for places where you may be able to use a singular effort to move you forward in two directions.
For example, assume for a moment you have decided to walk 3 miles a day to improve your cardiovascular fitness and you want to read 2 books a month. Perhaps listening to an audio book as you walk would allow you to move forward in two areas with a singular activity.
This is not often the case, but you will never see those synergies if you’re not looking for them.
Amazing Secret #2 on Your Personal Roadmap to Success — Creating Your Personal Road Map
Once you complete these activities you are ready to start building your road map. If you have created goals in the 7 areas of your life it may not be reasonable to work on all of them simultaneously. Start by working on those areas where you feel most deficient.
By way of analogy think of this like getting a degree in you. From elementary school through post-doc research you are focused on learning a variety of things but you can’t do them all at once. In each area your learning becomes sequential based on something you have learned previously.
In some areas your base of knowledge is more advanced making it easier to move on. In other areas you may even need to do some remedial work to increase your base of knowledge before you can move ahead.
Essentially this is the same except you are focused on you and your growth and progression as opposed to academic pursuits.
This gives you the opportunity to create increased balance where you’re at, as opposed exaggerating the lack of balance by focusing on areas of strength. There are, however exceptions to this, where circumstances dictate that certain areas require immediate focus.
Amazing Secret #3 on Your Personal Roadmap to Success —From Your Vision to Your Reality
As you begin the process look at a specific long-range goal and establish a time frame.
Break that objective down into a series of actions that will be required to get you where you want to go.
For each month identify what needs to happen during that month.
Take monthly goals and divide them into weekly goals, and then take weekly goals and divide them into daily goals. Keeping daily commitments result in weekly goals being readily accomplished. When weekly goals are met, monthly goals are achieved and momentum builds as you see the progress you are making.
Off times what we are talking about involves changing habits. It is not reasonable to try and change a bunch of different habits at once. Change one habit and as it becomes comfortable, go to work on another.
Your may find your focus rotating through different areas of your life so you maintain balance as you progress. That’s great!
One of the exciting things in this process is that you will become more comfortable with the principle of, and the process of change. As that happens new changes are more readily accomplished, to the point where it may almost feel magical.

“Bravery is the engine of change.”
Take one step beyond the light as you strive for your dreams, and you will feel the magic begin to happen. You will feel your momentum carrying you forth to that place where vision and dreams become reality.
Bonus Tip -Amazing Secret #4 on Your Personal Roadmap to Success — Embrace Change
If you want to achieve your personal definition of success it is imperative to embrace change. Change will be your constant companion. There are times when it will be scary and other times where it will be exhilarating. The only way to consistently move forward is to embrace it.
