I accidentally read a ‘Forbes’ column in January.

Leaving my Kindle at home, which I use to block the view of the doctor slicing and dicing my put-on-some-more-baby-oil-life’s-a-beach-no-longer-wearing-bikinis body, more than reading it, I grabbed a magazine from the waiting room where the flatscreen is always on the HGTV channel featuring some wealthy brunette wearing goggles wielding a six pound double-faced sledge hammer, and read the editor’s column while my arm was numbing. (One sentence. 65 words.)

So was my brain. (Sentence fragment. Four words)

The editor was ranting against the new tax bill in California. Wealthy people who are ‘employing solar panels and washing dishes only by hand’ will have to pay more. [Steve Forbes, Editor-in-Chief, August/September Special Issue]

Poor multi-millionaires/B$arios, I thought. Maybe we could start a charity for them?

This sort of planning is best done by teams.

Your entry must be a collaboration with at least two other writers.

It must include one sentence longer than 65 words.

One fragment shorter than four words.

Tag me.

Extra points will be given for entries published on the Patrick Eades of March, (Friday March 15.)

$10 for the wining team. The team leader will be paid $4, the rest divided amongst the other writers.

Worth it?

In the grand scheme of things, probably not.

But, wait. There’s more. A May More 💜 Tales ‘Teaser Tale’ will be written for the winning entry!

The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2024, midnight, PST.

Ann James: graham. are you interested in starting a charity for billionaires?

Graham Lilley: Absolutely, I would like every impoverished family to have at least one billionaire donated to them.

Ann James: what are you feelings about starting a charity for the upper crust? they obviously need our help.

Ben Human: That is a great idea! That ivory tower won’t build itself. Think of all the jobs for us.

Option Two: The Furious Fiction challenge.

You need not be an Aussie to participate.

Here are your creative criteria for this month:

Your story must include a character who revisits something.

Your story must include the same colour in your first and last sentence.

Your story must include the words CAMP, FAST and SPARK. (Longer words are okay if original spelling is retained.)

Embrace the creative challenge and be as original as possible!

Your story must be a maximum of 500 words. Hyphenated words and contractions each count as just one word.

If you chose the Furious Fiction option, be sure to send a link to Grandma Smillew for her collection. Congrats to Ryan Klemek for making the short list in February with this gem:

The winner of the February challenge will be announced soon.
