Summary

Elon Musk's public feud with Bill Gates over Tesla stock short-selling and Gates' personal life has sparked controversy, with Musk's use of a meme perceived as fat-shaming and inappropriate cultural appropriation.

Abstract

The article discusses the recent online altercation between Elon Musk and Bill Gates, where Musk accused Gates of short-selling Tesla stock. Musk's choice to compare Gates to the pregnant man emoji has been criticized for fat-shaming and misusing a symbol meant to celebrate LGBTQIA rights. The conflict highlights Musk's potential influence on Twitter, which he may soon own, and raises concerns about the platform's future use for personal vendettas. The article also touches on Gates' controversial association with Jeffrey Epstein and his troubled marriage, suggesting a complex interplay of personal and business rivalries. The incident underscores the broader issues of fat-shaming and its impact on society, particularly on young girls and women.

Opinions

  • Musk's actions are seen as an abuse of his social media influence, potentially setting a precedent for similar behavior on Twitter if he gains ownership.
  • The use of the pregnant man emoji by Musk is criticized as a form of queer cultural appropriation and as a tool for fat-shaming, which is harmful to individuals with body image issues.
  • There is confusion over Gates' investment decisions, given his public stance on climate change and the role of electric cars like Tesla in reducing carbon emissions.
  • Musk's reaction to Gates is portrayed as hypocritical, given that he declined to join Gates' philanthropic efforts and responded with a meme instead of addressing the issues constructively.
  • Gates is depicted as a contradictory figure, with his philanthropic work juxtaposed against his personal life controversies, including his association with Epstein and the breakdown of his marriage.
  • The article suggests that Musk's behavior, including the potential purchase of Twitter, is driven by ego and the desire to enhance his personal brand.
  • It is argued that while Gates' actions may be questionable, fat-shaming is not an acceptable form of criticism, and transgender rights should be respected.

There’s no doubt that Elon Musk, the richest man on earth has die-hard fans on Twitter.

He has Twitter in the palm of his hands. And in a few days if the Twitter board agrees to sell the company to Musk, then he becomes one of the very few creator CEO with a platform.

He becomes another Jeff Bezos who owns the Washington Post but is 100x bigger.

It is possible that he can or will use Twitter to attack anyone as he pleases.

This past week, it was revealed that Musk confronted Bill Gates for short-selling Tesla stock and their conversation was leaked on Twitter.

Soon after a meme from Elon Musk and Twitter exploded.

He compared Bill Gates to the pregnant man emoji, not only did he fat-shamed Gates but he was guilty of queer cultural appropriation.

The pregnant man emoji isn’t an emoji to make fun of overweight men, it is a representation of transmen who got pregnant. The pregnant man emoji is a tool to celebrate diversity and LGBTQIA rights.

And it didn’t take more than 9 words to shame Bill Gates publicly, Musk’s caption goes —

‘in case u need to lose a boner fast’ — Elon Musk

And with over a million likes, the comments mostly negative, Musk unleashed his social media power against Bill Gates.

How can you not see a “Kill Bill” metaphor at work here?

It’s confusing why Bill Gates is betting against Tesla when Gates is trying to solve climate change? Isn’t that what electric cars do, they cut carbon emissions?

Tesla, as a company, says that “the faster the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future, the better.

Who can blame Elon Musk for getting mad at Gates for his duplicity, after all, Gates invited Musk to join him in his philanthropic mission to save the planet?

To which Musk not only declined but gave Gates a fuck off with the trending meme.

Bill Gates is the classic example of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, on one hand, he is doing his best to save the world, but at the same time when his marriage collapsed one of the reasons given by Melinda French Gates was his ‘association’ with Jeff Epstein a convicted sex offender and a pedophile.

A man, Melinda Gates called evil personified.

“I regretted it from the second I stepped in the door. He was abhorrent. He was evil personified. I had nightmares about it afterwards. So, you know, my heart breaks for these young women, because that’s how I felt, and here I’m an older woman. My god, I feel terrible for those young women. It was awful.” — Melinda French Gates

It is very easy not to be on Bill Gates's side, he calls Jeffrey Epstein an error in judgment, and yet he ‘spilled the beans about his marriage to a man who was convicted of sex trafficking.

He called his marriage to Melinda Gates, a ‘toxic marriage.’

Fat Shaming

It never goes away. It’s a weapon, and most of its victims are young girls and women.

Men can also feel fat-shamed. Musk had valid points to be upset with Bill Gates. But rather than focus on issues, he used a meme as his weapon to ‘kill Bill’.

Words that not only shamed Bill Gates on social media but also made it look Ok for bullies to make fun of people based on their weight and age.

Ageism and fat-shaming hurt people.

And I’m not just talking about Bill Gates, who by his association with Epstein had developed some thick skin against criticism but I’m talking about the millions who suffer from low self-esteem all because of their body image.

What Is Fat Shaming? To make overweight people feel embarrassed of themselves, fat shaming involves criticizing and tormenting them about their weight or eating habits.

This is believed to promote people to eat less and exercise more in order to lose weight.

The majority of people who fat shame others are thin and have never had to deal with a weight issue.

According to research, most of the obesity conversation on social media comprises fat shaming, which frequently leads into harassment and cyberbullying, particularly against women.

Final words

Elon Musk in all likelihood is the next owner of Twitter, which he plans to make a private company.

His tiff with Bill Gates only shows what we can expect more of what will happen on Twitter once Musk gets hold of the social media platform

The $43 billion he is paying could be a pittance compared to what Twitter can add to his personal brand.

And while he doesn’t need more attention, his ego craves more.

As for Bill Gates while he deserves all the flak he has been receiving, from his being one of Jeff Epstein’s friends, for calling his marriage to Melinda Gates toxic, for his ‘cowspiracy,’ he doesn’t need to be fat-shamed.

Elon Musk can do better than making memes. And he better stops using the pregnant man emoji as a joke. Transgender rights are human rights.
