Summary

The provided text is a reflective poem titled "Blindness" by Suzanne Mondoux, published on July 28, 2020, as part of her Song/Poem of the Day collection.

Abstract

"Blindness" is a contemplative poem that delves into the metaphorical exploration of sightlessness, not as a physical condition but as an introspective journey. The author, Suzanne Mondoux, describes a state of being where the absence of visual cues leads to a deeper reliance on other senses and self-reflection. The poem navigates through themes of self-discovery, the essence of love, and the pursuit of authenticity amidst the confusion and obscurity of life's experiences. It suggests that true insight might be found in the embrace of one's blindness, as it strips away the superficial and allows for a raw and honest encounter with the self. The poem concludes with the poet finding herself through the very condition that could have been perceived as a limitation.

Opinions

  • The poem conveys a positive perspective on blindness, viewing it as an opportunity for self-discovery rather than a hindrance.
  • The author implies that physical sight can sometimes obscure deeper understanding, and the absence of sight can lead to greater clarity.
  • There is an acknowledgment of the struggle in reconciling one's true self with the perceived identity, as the poem speaks of confusion arising from a lack of self-awareness.
  • The poem suggests that self-judgment and poor self-assessment can be barriers to self-acceptance, emphasizing the importance of overcoming these to achieve personal growth.
  • The poet expresses that moments of thoughtlessness and recklessness, often associated with blindness, can paradoxically lead to moments of profound insight and self-recognition.

Blindness

28 July 2020 Song/Poem of the Day — Blindness

Sightless as I was never at a loss of light Unable to see the ravages of aimless desires The veil of fog gently lifting unaware of itself Not giving any clear direction On the heel of vagrant love into blindness

A flighty start it was Made of unraveling fabric Without colour or texture Plenty of doors and window for escape Designed to be free Without a growing point of love I fell into blindness

Using only my senses to make somebody of me Permanent blindness ceased I judged me poorly of my own property Confused by somebody I believed was me A proxy of my self, my soul uncovered Impaired vision by lack of sight of then and now False obstruction of the line I walked My hiding place for the hunter I am, behind my blindness To catch my prey

A thoughtless moment Careless and most reckless Rash in some moments of blindness No impulse for a present state I appeared in my aura Seemingly a guise of someone else reflection A defect in the vision of self In my stupor obscurity of the foggy veil vanished Leaving me in my blindness Oblivious to vision Blindness by darkness Innocence of my rawness In my simplicity for blindness I found myself
