September 2023 Has Finished
Yes, these 30 days have been very busy writing, reading and connecting with other writers.
At the moment, there are:
- 62 published stories
- 118 drafts pending to be reviewed (some of them are scheduled)
- 602 comments
I have a lot of ideas on my head about how to improve my stories so expect more experiments in the future.

It’s curious because the email subscribers / followers ratio was between 1.9% to 2.2% the whole month.
Is it good or bad?
To be honest, I don’t know. I think the greater, the better because email subscribers are more engaged than a followers by definition.
My stories compete in the feed with the rest of the stories from your followers.

Connecting with other writers helps us to improve our stories and create better experiences. I have read so many incredible stories these days that I cannot count them.
Audience Goals for October 2023
Can I reach 2K followers in October 2023? Who knows!
Even if that does not happen, I am ok with that. My focus will be on writing consistently and connecting with other writers and readers.
My September Views
There were 3,223 views in the last 30 days. 28 of those 30 days with more than 50 daily views:
The best thing is no days had 0 views. I could name it “The nightmare of the amateur writers”.
I still miss the “impressions” concept where we know how many times our stories are shown (YouTube have that). It could help to know if our titles and subtitles are connecting with the readers.

What am I going to do?
- Send my stories to publications.
- Write some days 2 stories instead of 1. Does It make any difference?
- Connect with more readers and writers.
I’ll write a story at the beginning of the next month explaining the results.
Someone Said Money? (Partner Program Earnings)
$227.03 in 30 days.
I am extremely happy with the results. To be honest, I didn’t expect it and I need to express my opinion:
I think the “Medium Partner Program” is (was?) broken
Crazy? Right?
And that’s not all:
I think they are trying to fix it and there are new rules we don’t know
The real earnings formula is a black box and for me, it’s frustrating.
I don’t know if the “more engagement, more money” is the best way to pay writers.
Why?
More time is required to evaluate the system but:
- A lot of good writers are leaving Medium because their stories are not the typical ones with more engaging. E.g. technical stories.
- Is it real engagement?
- Are they reading the stories or just “clapping and running away” expecting a percentage of reciprocity?
- Some people just want to read. They don’t need to clap, comment or highlight to enjoy the story.
- The “30 seconds rule” is totally random. Why 30? Why not 10?
- 1 long story will have less earnings than 2 short stories. So this formula is promoting shorter stories. That means less research and worse quality for some categories. The size matters.
I think they are trying to fix it (not sure how) because my earnings the last days have been lower.
Let’s see if there is a new formula in the near future.

The last week my earnings have been lower so I cannot estimate here yet. I need more days to evaluate.
