2024 is the Year of More
My plans for the coming year
It’s that time of year. Reflecting on the past and making exciting plans for the future.
And if you’re in the 99.9% of people, those plans will be floating in the toilet by Wednesday. And flushed shortly after.
Back to the same old same old.
So… let’s try and be in the 0.1% in 2024
(BTW, I’m making up these stats. Although, feels directionally correct 😀)
This year I’m keeping my goals simple and I’m calling 2024 the year of more…
- More sleep
- More money
- More writing
- More exercise
- More live music
- More adventures
- More healthy eating
- More physical books
If you’re interested, here’s the what, why, how, who, etc etc…
More Sleep
I don’t get enough sleep. Simple as.
Normally, I’m hitting the bed around 12.30am / 1am. And up at 7am.
I should be aiming for 7 hours which means getting to bed before midnight.
Why do this? Health.
I don’t feel tired exactly but I don’t feel rested.
Plus, that extra hour I stay up is normally wasted with some mindless scrolling of twitter or youtube. I might as well be in bed recharging the batteries.
More Money
I want to make more money.
For the usual reasons.
Bigger safety net, more life options, etc.
How am I going to do this?
I have a gazillion ideas that are complicated and might not work.
I also want to maintain a life balance. What’s the point if you can’t spend time with family and do the fun things in life?
So instead of focusing on the complex ideas, I’m going to keep it as simple as I possibly can.
More offers and more emails.
More digital products.
If I can keep my shiny object syndrome under control, it’ll be good.
More Writing
In the last quarter of 2023 I started writing on Medium and, although it’s hard, I’m enjoying it.
It’s working to attract an audience and even make a few $ with the partner program.
So I’ll continue writing on Medium.
I’ll also write more emails. Try to improve my writing and build a relationship with my subscribers. And, hopefully, sell more products.
More Exercise
Specifically more aerobic exercise.
Honestly, apart from walking daily, I don’t do enough to get out of breath regularly. And it shows.
So the plan is to run a couple of times per week. Starting easy and building up to continue pushing myself.
On top of that, Im going to try and use the skipping rope every day. I’ve never really used one before, so this morning’s experiment was amusing (to my son) and frustrating (to me).
But it’s a quick easy way to get the blood pumping so will persevere.
More Live Music
Before the pandemic I was just getting back into going to see live bands. Obviously that stopped for a couple of years but I haven’t made any effort in 2023 to see enough live music.
I love going but there’s always the “we need a babysitter” obstacle. So this year, more forward planning to see more music.
More Adventures
When it’s school term time it’s easy to fall into a weekend routine of admin and chilling at home.
And, it’s nice. But I think we do too much of it.
We have some great holidays (vacations) but more mini weekend adventures are needed.
There are many things to see and do locally. The only effort is getting our butts out of the house.
Fresh air and experiences for 2024.
More Healthy Eating
I’m about 5kg overweight as I write this.
The exercise will help a little but I need to get on top of my calorie intake. So once the fridge is empty of the Christmas treats, it’s back to sensible foods in sensible sized portions.
A little lighter body will make the exercise easier too.
More Physical Books
In 2023 I started buying physical books after years of using a Kindle.
The Kindle is great for storage but it’s not the same as holding the book in your hand and reading print on real paper.
So this year, I’ll put the screens down earlier in the evening and read more books. Mainly biographies.
And that’s me for 2024.
If I can do more of those things, I’ll be happy heading into 2025.
What about you? What are your plans?
