Missing People
2024 Great Disappearance(s)
Some of our friends, followers, and simply great people are…elsewhere.
Earlier this week, I noticed a few friends had not written an article. I missed them and hoped they were okay.
One of them promised that this week, he would post 3.4 articles per day. By noon, I hadn’t seen a single word.
I was about to publish an article through one of my go-to publications, but I couldn’t find the publication.
I looked for the editor and founder. Instead of her profile page, I found a 410 error. Tears welled up. I reached out a different way to make sure she was okay. She is okay.
If they aren’t here, they’re elsewhere.
I looked up a few others that I was missing. Then it became a dozen folks. Each time, I was met with a 410 error. They were not on Medium that day. They are elsewhere. Temporarily, I trust.
There have been articles, stories and even lists created.
I’ve connected with a handful of those I could, many I didn’t know how to contact. They are doing okay. Disappointed? Sure. Hopeful? Yes. But the ones I’ve connected with are okay.
I’ve chosen not to name names. Several asked me not to so I will honor their wants.
I know from my time at AOL and in baseball…
Sometimes, what happens behind the scenes needs to stay behind the scenes while things get worked out. When it’s time, we will all be told somehow, and folks will come back.
The bigger the boat, the slower the turn.
This is not Medium vs. Writers. I would suggest we allow Medium teams to do the work that needs to be done. When the dust clears, everyone will be good. We will all learn.
Remain positive. Keep writing. Have fun.
One thing I love seeing is how much writers are being missed. I love how you love your friends!
Remember, the bigger the boat, the slower the turn.
For now, folks are elsewhere. I believe they will be back.
Everyone improves. They’ll be back (most of them).
Be patient. Things will work out.
I love you!
