2021 May Have Been the Most Exciting Year of March Madness
And I barely even watch college basketball

March Madness in 2021 was a really intriguing one.
There was a boatload of upsets that kept all the fans and bracket makers intrigued. I don't doubt that a lot of money changed hands in the sports betting world either.
As a football fan, I never expected to be so interested in college basketball. It could be because this was the most exciting sporting event since the Superbowl, but either way, I was entertained this year.
I’m sure that so many other sports fanatics were intrigued as well.
Some of the biggest shockers include in the entire tournament:
- #15 Oral Roberts beats #2 Ohio State 75–72.
- #13 North Texas beats #4 Purdue 78–69.
- #8 Loyola Chicago beats #1 Illinois 71–58.
- #11 UCLA beats #2 Alabama 88–78.
- #11 UCLA beats #1 Michigan 51–49.
Watching this entire tournament basically voided out any belief that a seeding truly matters.
With Covid and everything going on, this was an extremely oddball year.
Some teams had to take three weeks off for safety reasons, as the Champion Baylor University.
There was talk about the tournament even happening months ago, but everything pulled through and we got a crazy outcome.
Championship Game #1 Gonzaga Vs. #1 Baylor
Gonzaga had a surprising comeback against UCLA, but that didn’t pan out against Baylor.
Baylor had an extremely pressuring defense that didn’t ever give Gonzaga a chance to attack offensively in the manner they wanted.
The Baylor Bears had basically three powerful point guards and such an aggressive offensive that the Congzaga Bulldogs simply couldn’t overtake.
Gonzaga played from behind the entire game and couldn’t gather the comeback they wanted. By halftime, they closed the gap to 10 points but ended up losing the game by 16.
March Madness had a clear winner this year. Baylor crushed nearly every team they played and it showed in the championship game that they had the best team this year.
Final Thought
Clearly, anything can happen in March Madness, even an 11-seed making it all the way to the final four.
If you wanted something exciting in sports this year, then you got it.
At the end of the day, it came down to two #1 seed teams, but everything leading up to it was completely unexpected.
This proves that anything can happen in March Madness, and it’s one of the most unique tournaments to ever exist.
