Ten complete stories in just 20 words each.

My pal and excellent writer, T Mann, tossed another challenge at me that she found from Sara Lorca: Write ten complete stories in 20 words each. Ok, Trish, here goes. Warning: Some grisly ones appropriate for Halloween are thrown in for fun.

A trilogy

  1. The tree's fruit is forbidden, but she doesn’t know why. So, she eats. Her eyes open. She knows.
  2. He loves her courage and disobedience, so he eats the apple she offers him. Awake together, they fly free.
  3. They’ve run away. The ancient god roams the deserted paradise he made for them. Who will he play with now?

A trilogy

  1. Azaleas bloom. Fat, colorful pompoms cover the entire garden. Grandad laments that he has no more room for the bodies.
  2. The rose garden is now off-limits to tour groups. He blames the departed proctologist who found a finger bone.
  3. He dreams of dark, secret things that call to him. He tucks them away until he gets out of here.

A boxed set of 2

  1. Carla screamed with rage from the hurt. The icy water thrown at her drowned the scream; the anger simmered beneath.
  2. She aimed at the glass ceiling. Sipping a nice glass of Chianti, she plotted how to eliminate her competition.

Standalones

  1. It’s hard to close a door and walk away, but we find freedom only if we leave our baggage behind.
  2. It’s a time for monsters, zombies, vampires, and foul deeds. In other words, just another day of politics in America.

Trish, your turn. Does anyone else want to play? If you do, please tag T Mann and me.
