I write advice and opinion stories on all kinds of topics, including writing on Medium, and ways to be more productive in your online activities.

When it comes to writers on writing, I’m just one voice among thousands, but I try hard to be a loud and useful voice. I know there are lots of new writers who are anxious to see their pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters eventually grow into dollars.

The tips and writing advice I offer can be used in a way that will help anyone who wants to earn money writing online; something I’ve been doing for several long years.

During the course of all that time, I’ve learned some effective strategies that help provide me with an advantage here on Medium. That was one of the things I mention in my story:

Would you like to know more about some of the awesome writing tips I can provide, that may help you in your writing endeavors here on Medium?

If so, be sure to check out the writing related section of my directory, and take a stroll through the various titles. I know you’ll find some writing advice there you can use and benefit from.

20 Unique Publications

Now, I’d like to share the names of the 20 unique publications that I suggest you follow and request to write for.

Since more exposure for our stories translates into more earnings for the writer, you want to select publications that will welcome you and publish your stories (for the most part) hassle-free.

As you will notice, I’ve written for all but 4 of the following publications myself.

Not only did I find them to be very accepting when I joined, but most of them take no time at all in publishing your stories.

Of course, we do have to allow for the various time differences between writers, and those who run and edit the publications. But all in all, my stories are typically accepted and published within a 24-hour period.

This might not be something that seems important to you now, but there will definitely come a time when you have a story that you want and need to see published as soon as possible.

The last thing you’ll want is some publication keeping it tied up, by simply sitting on their virtual shelf, just waiting there.

Situations like that give writers a bigger incentive to look for publications that work on getting your stories published in a timely way. This is not meant to put any publications down, because editors are human and they have busy lives, just like the rest of us.

The point in mentioning this, is to help writers keep that in mind, when submitting stories that have a short shelf life (shorter than usual).

Without further ado, here is my list. Since I indicated that they’re unique publications, I wrote a brief note as to why I describe them that way.

Getting Started Publications

The first 3 publications on the list are great to help get you started here on the platform. You get a chance to introduce yourself , and say a little something about your writing.

That’s always a good jumping off point, especially if you’re a new writer, and don’t quite know what you’re doing. Just write about that, how you’re clueless to what’s going on, and watch how much support you get.

About Me Stories — This is a publication that every new Medium is urged to submit to. Since I joined the site in May 2021, I’ve watched this publication become the go to place for promoting your Medium profile. Feel free to check mine out later.

About Me — Justiss Goode

Feedium — Every writer who writes on the Medium website eventually find their way to J.J. Pryor’s publication. He himself states that he’ll just about “…publish anything as long as it’s not gibberish” and also, it needs to be related to writing. Not only will he publish it, but he’s quick about getting it done. This is one of the few publications where you can even say the “M” word in your MEDIUM related titles.

Medium Writers Wanted: Shameless Self Promotion Welcome!

Write To Inspire –This is another publication for writers on writing, so if providing writing advice and tips are your thing, this is a really good place to submit. Although you will probably be accepted quickly, in my experience, for whatever reason, it takes a bit longer for your story to be published, but in spite of that fact, no stories were rejected.

Publication Groups

Some publication editors have multiple publications, however Dr Mehmet Yildiz has taken things a step further with his truly unique group of publications.

All of them are of particular use and value to new online freelancers who hope to earn money writing, in some form or fashion. Under the guidance of Dr Mehmet Yildiz, the following 5 publications accept a variety of types of stories, and all types of writers.

ILLUMINATION — This particular publication could be considered the parent of the group. Writers can submit various types of blogging and writing related stories.

How to Make Your Regular Blog Writing Not Seem So Overwhelming

ILLUMINATION’S MIRROR — This is basically what it sounds like, a mirror site of the above one, that also accepts freelance related stories, as well as stories by and about blog and website content providers, and their various writing experiences.

How Do You Know What Advice to Follow about Getting Amazon Book Reviews?

ILLUMINATION-Curated — This particular Illumination publication has quickly become one of my favorites. Most publications only want your fresh Drafts of unpublished stories, however, not this one. If you had a story that was curated by Medium, but didn’t do well quick enough, it probably didn’t get the exposure it should have. This publication gives all your formerly curated stories that you published another chance to thrive. THEY EVEN ACCEPT 3 Submissions at once!

Hats Off to Sha’ Carri Richardson for Putting Her Big Girl Panties On!

ILLUMINATION Book Chapters — This is one of the only four publications on my list I haven’t actually written for, however, I have been accepted to write for them, and I plan to submit some of my content from my self-published books. If you’re an Amazon author or have published fiction elsewhere, this will be a great publication to submit to.

Writing Advice to Aspiring Authors About National Novel Writing Month

SYNERGY — This is yet another brainchild of the Dr., in an effort to help Medium’s Illumination writers get even more visibility and exposure. They also help throw a focus on various types of ways to earn money writing, and encourage tapping into multiple writing related income streams.

Unique Themes and Editors

This next 7 publications I list are unique because of their publication themes and/or tone of the editor. Whenever I’m not giving advice and opinions about writing, I enjoy submitting to these publications and sharing my thoughts and creativity. I also get a chance to share some personal experiences and some of my many life lessons learned, with a really receptive audience.

Songstories — This is my FAVORITE publication to submit to, out of all of them. I’m a huge music lover, and of course, writing is clearly a passion of mine as well. This publication allows me to combine both my two loves in a creative way, and share it with others. If you’re a music lover like me, what more could you ask for???

Know Thyself, Heal Thyself — If you want a publication to share stories about difficult or challenging personal experiences you’ve lived through, this is it. Tell a story about how you became self-aware, learned self-love, or anything else on your self-discovery journey.

Does Your Mental Health Decline During the Winter Months?

RESONATES — It’s no secret that many publications on Medium tend to have the same or similar themes. This is the case with Resonates. While you can share stories about self-healing, just like some other publications, you have to make sure to present it in a way that the reader gets some kind of value from it, even though it was a personal story.

“Guilty: I Almost Made My Mother Die”

The Lark — If you like to write fiction, and poetry, you will find a variety of publications on Medium, and the Lark is one of the notable ones. They allow you to express your creativity, regardless of what level of writer you may be, and they have a very receptive readership that will accept you with open arms..

Oops Don’t Step on the Cracks!

The Shortform — This publication is especially unique, due to the standard length requirement for a story. They focus solely on short form stories (as in less than a 3 minute read), so if you’re the kind of writer who worries about not having enough to say, this is a great place to submit to.

Feel Free to Give Me the Clap!

Passive Asset — This is the publication that comes to mind, when I’m debating about what category to position my story in. I like submitting here, because my stories often cross into multiple themes or topics, and Passive Asset seems to cover them all. They’re good about responding, so I never second guess submitting to them.

10 Helpful Relationship Tips on How to Completely Forget about Your Ex

Rogues’ Gallery — If you find that you’re the kind of writer who likes to color outside the lines, this might just be the publication for you. But first, read some of editor Sherry McGinn’s stories, and a few others. You need to appreciate the unique tone of the Rogue’s Gallery publication, so you don’t risk rejection for sending the wrong type of story.

Why Do We Allow People to Steal Our Most Valuable Asset?

New Era is actually a new Medium publication, but that’s definitely no reason to shy away from them. If they continue being as welcoming and quick to publish, like they currently are, I suspect their name will gradually become popular enough to be among the top publications on Medium.

Increasing Your Writing Productivity Can Help You Develop Other Skills

Black Like Me — Not only is this another new Medium publication, but I happen to be the creator and editor. Right now, I’ve got several writers on record, but only one has actually submitted a story. I’ve got quite a few of my own stories published, and I welcome other writers who want to write specifically about black and African American related issues.

Just Like New — This is another one of my own publications, and I designed it, in a similar way that Illumination Curated accepts previously published stories. For this publication, I accept all previously published stories, over one week old. Basically, there is no other criteria when it comes to the type of story, length, theme, category, or anything like that. This publication merely exists, to try and help revive some new life into your previously published stories, and hopefully help the stories gain more readers.

5 Reasons People Like to Read Numbered Lists and Stories with Numbers in the Title

3 Publications Pending

The following 3 publications I’ve yet to write for, even though they have accepted me as a writer. I plan to make sure I provide the type of stories they actually publish, before submitting anything to them at this time.

They seem very welcoming, so once again, I suggest reaching out to them and trying your luck. I’ve provided comments from their “about us” information, to help you get an idea about what they publish.

Tell Your Story

“Everyone has a story to tell, probably many more than one. Tell Your Story is home for the best creative nonfiction and personal essays on Medium, stories from the heart that help us all understand a little bit more about ourselves and the world around us.”

Better Advice

“Opinions about life, self-Improvement, personal growth and valuable life lessons. Humans need motivational spark and illumination to strength moral ascent. For that you need better advice.”

Finding Greatness

“A platform designed for hosting inspirational content.”

Final Thoughts

These publications are the ones I found easy to apply for, accept me, and submit stories to. Try starting out with some or all of them, but remember, there are tons more who will welcome you with open arms.

By the way, sometimes a publication will actually reach out to YOU and indicate they put you on as a writer. Several of the above publications did that with me.

So be sure to pay attention to your list of publications and notice if you suddenly have a new publication show up on the list, and they’ve given you “writer” status. Just click the “publication” link in the long drop down menu, and check periodically.
