19 Signs You’re Doing Better Than You Think You Are

Stop putting yourself down, you’re doing just fine 🌺

I want this article to be a moment of reflection. Take a deep breath and relax your mind for a minute or two. Let this article help you remember what you are most grateful for in your life.

19 signs to think about: whereas some of them are obvious, others are subtle and carry an emotional layer with them. The key here is to think about what’s going on in your life.

I’ll cut to the chase and dive right in.

1. You doubt yourself

You question yourself. You doubt your life. You feel miserable some days. This means you’re still open to growth. This means you can be objective and self-aware. The best people go home at the end of the day and think: “or… maybe there’s another way”.

These people are set for growth — emotionally as well as in their pursuits.

2. You paid the bills this month

Bills can be a real challenge. But the good news is that you paid them all this month. Maybe you even had some extra for something you enjoy. Regardless, you tackled them and came out on top. Keep it up.

3. You’re not the same person

A year ago, you were a completely different person. You’ve changed now and become a better version of yourself. You are learning, evolving and you can identify how you changed — and you’re proud of it.

4. You have a job

You have a job. For however many hours, at whatever rate, you are earning money that helps you eat something, sleep on something, and wear something every day. It’s not a failure if it doesn’t look the way you thought it would.

Never stop valuing yourself and taking responsibility for your independence.

5. You have time

You have time to enjoy yourself, regardless of how long or short this time is, and regardless of the activity you’re doing. You find the time (or make it) to indulge yourself in some stuff that you enjoy.

6. You don’t worry about food

You’re not worried or concerned about where your next meal is going to come from. You can afford your food, have some stored in your fridge and your body is capable of healthily digesting it. You also get to choose what you want to eat from a range of options.

7. You eat for enjoyment

You’re not consuming food to survive; you choose to eat out of enjoyment.

8. You have a couple of ‘good’ friends

As we grow older, we tend to realize that true friendships never depend on quantity. Two or three good friends that you spend quality time with can make your life exceptionally great. At the end of the day, you have a couple of close friends who love and accept you, no matter what.

9. You can afford basic stuff

The subway ticket this morning, the coffee on the way to work or school, and a new snow boot last winter were not issues for you at all.

10. You have a variety of clothes

You open your wardrobe and find different colors, forms, and textures. You get to choose how to dress up and look pretty.

11. You have a sense of what’s right and wrong

You have learned the art of introspection. You can take a moment to retreat from the world and think about things ‘inside’. You have a sense of whether something is good or bad for you and those you love and care about.

12. You’re proud of your younger self

Remember when you had to go through these tribulations in your life, when everything seemed to fall apart? Your younger self used to tell you: “we’re going to make it; everything is going to be alright.” You can now look back with pride at what you’ve endured and what you’ve become because of it. You can tell your younger self: “You were right; we did it.”

13. You have a space of your own

You have a place that you can call ‘my quiet corner’ where you can create or rest on your own time. It’s your own private territory and you control who comes in and who doesn’t. It’s one of the few controls in this world that you get to taste —and it’s entirely yours.

14. You lost relationships

Even though at the time of losing them you thought that the world was falling apart. But you learned that the world is full of new people and better opportunities. You lost relationships but gained new ones. You grew because you let go, and you grew because you forged new ones.

15. You are genuinely interested in ‘something’

Something tickles you every night to explore it. The mere thought of it gives you butterflies in your stomach. You know you want to discover it, and more importantly: you know you can discover it. It’s like a small purpose to you, perhaps a greater calling in life.

16. You know how to take care of yourself

You know what to do on your own when you:

  • Don’t feel well
  • Have your heart broken
  • Don’t get enough sleep
  • Want to have some fun

You have developed very good self-awareness and you act accordingly.

17. You’re working towards something worthwhile

You share the magnificent feeling of shouldering a responsibility towards a meaningful goal in your life. Yes, it feels tiring as hell sometimes. But in the great scheme of things, it feels incredible with every tiny step you take towards that goal. You are enjoying the process.

18. Life didn’t get easier

But you got smarter and stronger. You encounter the same problems as before, but you no longer dwell on them; instead, you come up with better solutions — and you do that pretty fast.

19. You’re not uncompromising, but you can still say no

You’ve reached a maturity level to say ‘no’ to energy vampires and activities that will drain your drive, but you still understand how to differentiate between them and other activities that recharge your soul and prepare you for a better week ahead.

You’re doing great in life. Keep it up and don’t let anyone make you feel miserable because they’re miles ahead of you on their own paths.

Learn this from basic physics:

When you compare two things, the reference has to be the same. Your reference is you and only you — it’s never someone else.

Power to you, and I’ll see you in the next one.
