These are some lesser-known weird ones

I Love These Little Devils

I’ve been collecting random facts for years. These are the ones that have stuck in head. I can’t remember where they came from and I am not citing any links to research.

Debunk them if you can.

Come here, I have something to tell you

Whispering to someone will prompt them to whisper back, even if it’s unnecessary. It works every time.

Try it. Lean in, and whisper, “Have you got the time?”

See what happens.

Focus

You won’t know this happens until I point it out.

Your brain automatically ignores continual sensations.

So take a moment to realise that your clothes are touching your skin and that you can actually feel them.

From your shirt to your shoes. You can feel them all. All you have to do is focus on them.

Sales technique

Luxury brands experience higher sales when their sales staff are more rude.

Those salespeople in Pretty Woman were maybe on to something.

Where are you going on holiday?

When you think about going on holiday, your brain automatically pops an image of a beach in your head.

Did that just happen to you?

Why strangers tell you their secrets

We tend to be more candid and transparent with friends you see as temporary.

Have you ever been chatting with someone on a train or a plane and wondered why you are telling them all this intimate stuff about yourself?

I have.

Right bias

In a crowded lecture hall, a church, at a funeral, or any gathering that isn’t full, the left side is always less packed.

I’m not sure about this. Does it depend on what side of the road you drive? In the UK and Australia they go left and the USA, do they turn right?

Maybe our politics are like that, we blindly follow the left or right for no other reason than that is what we are programmed to do.

Feeling shy?

People who have their dog with them feel more confident approaching an attractive person.

Looking for a date — take Rover with you.

I know this one is spot on. It’s more spot on than the 101 Dalmatians. I’ll talk to anyone with a dog.

The mirror is revealing

We often dislike individuals who possess the same imperfections and repeat the same errors as us.

This is contradictory to what we think. We imagine ourselves as being likeable and good company. But when you identify others’ behaviour as something you do, we don’t like it.

We are not as unique as we believe we are.

Time is running out

When someone pressures you to decide quickly, it’s likely not a good offer.

Walk away.

This is the best advice. If they won’t sell you that item at the same price after you missed the deadline — they are the only one losing out.

The tired old truth

When a person is tired, they tend to be more honest.

I know I am. I haven’t got the strength to make up a lie.

Yawn.

We like being scared

When there’s no real danger, fear can bring a sense of satisfaction.

It’s why those scary films make big money at the box office. And we prefer to watch these with someone else, it enhances our feeling of safety.

There is also nothing like the thrill of a bungee jump — except maybe a naked bungee jump. No I’m not doing that.

Feeling the cold, or just shy?

Generally, individuals who keep their hands in their pockets around crowds are either anti-social or shy.

Unless you are in the Antarctic, then it’s okay.

Search for the truth

If you want accurate answers on the internet, it’s better to avoid asking questions.

Simply share an incorrect answer and wait for people to set you straight. It’s a bit of fun.

Isn’t it amazing what people get their knickers in a twist about?

Boring people benefit

Your mind rephrases dull speeches of uninteresting individuals to make them more captivating.

I wasn’t sure about this one until I was listening to my friend tell me about her day at work and in the middle of it I snapped out of my fug and realised how mundane it was.

Come on Sally, talk about something more fascinating — me for example.

Honesty

People who swear more often are more honest than those who don’t.

I’ve no frigging idea why. But it’s true.
