150 Word Review: “The Ice Road” (2021)
Liam Neeson is part truck
I give this Netflix movie three out of five Liam Neesons. In The Ice Road, a convoy of Mack trucks braves a treacherous ice road with equipment to save trapped miners in the frozen wasteland of northern Canada. The main trucker is played by Liam Neeson, who has a particular set of skills, namely, the ability to drive semis across fast-melting arctic highways. Neeson is his own genre now and nobody does it better.
The ensemble includes Neeson’s character’s brother, an Iraq War vet with PTSD that turned him into George from ‘Of A Mice And Men.’ Amber Midthunder stars as a young trucker prodigy and icon Lawrence Fishburne shows up, too, an actor who elevates every role. The plot includes an evil egghead and a corporate conspiracy but the only reason to watch this modest blue-collar race-against-time action movie is for Liam Neeson, scowling, as he drives a truck.
