150 Word Review: ‘Ready or Not’ (2019)
Here they come
To misquote Balzac: “Behind every great fortune there is a human sacrifice.” In the horror-comedy Ready or Not, former foster kid Grace is about to get married to the man of her dreams, a handsome geek with a rich family. Old money, you see. What she doesn’t know is her blue-blooded in-laws have a few quirky traditions, like hunting new family members with axes and crossbows.
The movie doesn’t hit you over the head with class politics but there is plenty of brutal head trauma.
As the bride, Samara Weaving is a survivor in a bloody wedding gown and she will murder you if she has to. Her character starts out as your typical Hollywood ‘final girl’ and at the end, she’s smoking a cigarette, covered in gore, over it. The rest of the cast are perfectly killable snobs, including Andie McDowell. Ready or Not is, literally, a cult classic.
