15 Harsh Relationship Lessons That Your Therapist Won’t Say to Your Face
It is time for someone to be honest with you.

She heard the story.
She said nothing; and proceeded to make notes in her journal.
What did she scribble down? I’ll never know.
But her Tweet insights might give a few clues.
#1. Time doesn’t heal your wounds.
“The older you get, the more you realize it’s not about who knows you the longest, it’s about who makes you feel seen, heard, understood, appreciated, supported and loved.”
#2. Arguments don’t give you closure.
“Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is be quiet and keep low-key, even if you have a lot to say. The older you get, the more you care about your peace than winning an argument or proving a point.”
#3. Self-accountability is essential.
“At some point you got to get real with yourself about how much you participate in your own suffering.”
#4. Rejection positivity is a superpower.
“The real flex is seeing rejection as divine redirection and protection. A person who is okay with rejection is a powerful person.”
#5. Being private is underrated.
“You’ll never regret being private, minding your own business and loving yourself. I promise you, that vibing alone teaches you a lot about yourself, it’s so worth it. Privacy is power and protection. Normalize living in private, dating in private, making money in private, healing in private, unlearning in private and growing in private.”
#6. Break it off with your negative friends.
“You were always meant to outgrow some people, especially those who refuse to celebrate the new you because you’ve grown beyond the limits they set for you.”
#7. Peace comes when you stop avoiding the work.
“Crazy how peaceful life becomes when you start healing and raising the bar on who has access to you.”
#8. Say “no” more often.
“I’ve said no enough times to know that I don’t lose friends by saying no, I lose users, abusers, energy vampires, manipulators, narcissists, takers and toxic people posing as my friends.”
#9. Stop settling into friend groups. Move on when necessary.
“Pay attention to how your body feels after hanging out with someone. Trust yourself, don’t gaslight your gut feeling. Self-care is never reconnecting with toxic people no matter how lonely you feel.”
#10. Get comfortable with awkwardness & silence.
“People only understand from their own level of perception. It’s not your job to make sure they understand you. It’s your job to understand yourself.”
#11. Care less about others.
“You are the most important person in your life. It’s okay to find yourself and lose others. It’s okay to accept yourself and reject others. It’s okay to be yourself and disappoint others. It’s okay to disconnect from others to reconnect with yourself.”
“You can be kind and loving and still say no. Don’t allow your empathy to let people walk all over you. Remember, your needs should always come before other people’s wants. Start saying no to takers, drainers, users & abusers. They have no limits. Your boundaries are their limits.”
#12. Drama is not romantic sparks.
“People who are willing to communicate and fix things together are attractive as ever.”
#13. Self-care is not bought.
“The older you get, the more you realize that for every hour you spend with people, you need to spend 5 hours alone. You’ve healed too much not to change this new chapter to “invite only”. Avoiding people who love to play the victim and make you out to be the villain is top tier self-care.”
#14. Every battle is not yours to fight.
“Maturity is moving on with no hard feelings or resentment and letting karma take care of it.”
#15. You can’t blame people for taking advantage.
“Empathy without boundaries is self-destruction. You got to start training your boundaries to be stronger than your empathy and feelings. Takers have no limits. Your boundaries are their limits.”
