12 Tips for Saving a Massive Amount of Money in Everyday Life
Make some small changes in your life to save more money

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly spending money without really knowing where it’s all going? If so, then you’re not alone. Many people struggle with keeping track of their finances and finding ways to save money.
That’s why I put together this blog to share 12 easy ways that you can start saving more money in your everyday life.
Overview of Budgeting
Before you can save money in everyday life, you need a budget book to see how you spend your money.
For this, you can use Excel and create your own or use an app. There are lots of free apps available. I use Moneystats and Excel as a backup. So, if I buy something or earn something, I put it in my app and then have a great overview of how much I spend.
You need to build a routine to stick to your habits. I did a video about habits which I will link in the cards.
Comparing Contracts
You should always look at websites like idealo to compare prices if you want to buy online.
I always use these sites to find the cheapest company that sells it. If it is an unknown company, I search for reviews about them.
Especially as a high school student, you want to save as much money as possible. Many teenagers want to buy phones or MacBooks, so you should wait for sales like Black Friday. I also bought a MacBook this year on Black Friday to save the most money.
Always make sure that there are no hidden fees that you have to pay. Sometimes you have extra fees contracts for phones or financial products.
Canceling Contracts After Completion
I am a person who always tries to have as few subscriptions as possible. You should also do this as a high school student because you don’t have much money and don’t need everything.
I only have the iCloud subscription for 1 euro, the Medium site where I read blogs for 5 euros. These are the things that I use often.
If you can, you should always cancel your contracts directly so that you don’t forget and they renew. I also do this.
When making a contract, always make sure that you can cancel it at any time and don’t need to wait a year.
Renting Instead of Buying
If you only rent, you have the freedom to move to another place and also don’t have the responsibility for the house. You also don’t need to get a bank credit.
If you rent a home and invest the money that you save because of renting, you are definitely saving more.
Transportation Savings
There are three main options for getting to school: bike, motorbike, or public transportation.
Bike
I use my bike every school day because it only takes me 20 to 25 minutes to get to school. Otherwise it would take 50 minutes with public transport. Another benefit is that you only need to buy the bike once and then you don’t have to spend as much money.
Motorbike
I have never tried this, but it could also be an option because it is faster than the other modes of transportation. But, you need a driver’s license and you have to pay for fuel.
Public transportation
This is only for some people, but compared to the cost of using a car, it is much cheaper to take the train or bus to work. Another benefit is that I can work while I am on the bus.
Reducing Consumption-Promoting Impulses
When I was young, I was that kid who would say something and then ask my parents, “Can you please buy me this?” Nowadays, it is common for kids to like something and then want their parents to buy it. The problem is they only like it in the moment and after a few days not anymore.
So, you should not make impulse purchases. This means you shouldn’t buy something directly if ust see it in a shop. Especially as a teenager, there are so many things that you want to get because of other people.
Shopping mindfully
So today I think if I see something, do I need it and what value does it bring me? In 9 out of 10 cases, I don’y need it. Something that I need is a MacBook for editing because it takes so much time on my small laptop.
You should always think if you need it and if possible, wait a few days to see if you still want it.
Setting Purchase Deadlines
In the past, I never believed in this and always wanted my product as fast as possible. So I always thought if I order it today, it will come in 3 days. But if I wait one day longer, I will have it one day later.
There were a few things that I regret buying in the past. I also think I was buying too much stuff in the beginning instead of starting with less and trying it first. Nowadays, I just set a deadline of a week and always think about whether I need it or not.
The benefits are that you avoid impulse purchases. You set a deadline when you see something online and then decide if you still want it.lines
If I see new shoes online, I can set a one-week deadline to decide if I want them or not.
Refrain from 0% Financing
0% financing means that you don’t pay the full price of an item at the beginning. Instead, you make a contract with a fixed payment and rate based on the price. 2. Dangers of 0% financing
The danger is that it leads to buying something without having the money for it. You are also then in a contract and have to wait until you have paid everything, and you cannot pay more for a month.
An alternative is to pay for something is instanly the whole price. A good strategy is to only buy something if you can buy it twice.
File Your Taxes
Benefits are that you get more money back. If you don’t want to pay a lot of money for someone to do it for you, doing it yourself. I would recommend using an app; there are many out there that don’t cost much.
I want to be honest; I haven’t tried this because I don’t do taxes under 18, but I have seen it work for many people.
Cut Power Eaters
Power eaters are items in your home that consume a lot of power but are not necessary. The biggest one would be heating.
You should look for things that generally consume a lot of power and then consider if you need them all the time.
A good way would be to turn off the heating at night if possible to save energy and money
Share streaming subscriptions
If you have subscriptions you should look if it’s possible to share them with other people.
You should look for people in your friend circle to share with them. In the past, you could share your Netflix subscription with other people. Nowadays they don‘t want that anymore and make restrictions. Many people save money if they share their Spotify account.
Write grocery list
You can plan your week on Sunday and then buy everything on Monday. So you don’t have a problem to think what you should eat now. I found out that chat can give you great food ideas. You can also write your ingredients and then it makes you a menu.
When I am shopping with my family we often buy things that are not on our list. But only buying from the grocery list can save you a lot of money. If you stick to your shopping list and don‘t buy more than on the list. With this simple technique, you avoid purchases where you later wish not to buy the item. That is also a Marketing trick that if you are checkout there are oft small things that you see and think you need them.
Make food prepping a habit
It is smart to plan on the weekend more food so that you can take the dinner from Sunday to Monday to work. There are specific foods that you can make for food prepping and some not.
I would recommend buying extra boxes for meal prepping so that you can transport it from home to work or school. I will now have in my new school only 25 minutes lunch break so I need to take food from home. I will do for the next week on Monday bircher müsli for the next days.
