Are you a tech writer looking for markets to submit your work to? Check out the 12 markets we have listed in this article — they are all looking for technical writers for articles, blogs, and tutorials. These websites cover web development, design, space technology, apps, IT, business, digital currency, and more.

A List Apart

A List Apart’s tag line is “For people who make websites.” They are very transparent in what they are looking for, including publishing a style guide and linking to recent articles they have published, providing writers concrete examples of the exact type and style of content they want to buy.

This website focuses on web development, design, and the best practices. They are looking for articles between 600–2500 words. You can send them a short pitch, a partial draft, or a rough draft during the pitching process.

Payment: I did not see it listed on their guidelines pages, but others have reported a range between 50.00 for very short pieces, up to $200.00.

Air & Space Mag

Air & Space Magazine is put out by the Smithsonian Institutes National Air and Space Museum. It is geared towards aerospace enthusiasts. Their writing guidelines suggest that the best way for new writers to break through is by submitting to their departments.

These are shorter pieces that range anywhere from 200–1500 words. They also publish feature articles, but these articles are longer and require more research and reporting.

Payment: The payment is not listed. The guidelines state that the fees paid vary widely. If accepted for publication, a kill fee will be negotiated.

Appypie

Appypie is a mobile app creator, and they are looking for blog posts on various apps. These posts should be between 1,000–2,500 words and include photos, screenshots, and examples.

The types of apps that they are looking for articles on include wedding planning apps, dating apps, restaurant apps, real estate apps, quiz/survey apps, small businesses, website builders, music/radio/entertainment apps, chatbot builders, mobile app builders, website builders, workflow automation, app marketing and case studies about successful apps.

Payment: They pay up to $100.00 a post. If your post gets shared more than 200 times, you may also get a $50.00 bonus.

ARS Technica

Ars Technica is a website that covers a broad range of topics, including Business, IT, Tech, Science, and Gaming. If you are interested in contributing to the website, you can send them a message through their contact us page.

Payment: Although I could not locate this information directly on their website, other people have reported them paying up to $0.40 a word.

Bitcoin Tech Weekly

Bitcoin Tech Weekly is looking for writers experienced in Bitcoin to produce articles (features and lead-ins) and briefs. A lead-in is a top-of-the-page article of about 1500 words that covers a narrow topic that is a current event related to bitcoin. For features, they are looking for unique articles that have not been written of before. They are also looking for briefs — articles of less than 600 words that quickly cover something such as a new announcement, release, or update.

Payment: Payment for briefs is $20.00 to 40.00. Payment for lead-in and feature articles starts at $200.00 for new writers; however, that can increase over time.

Cake PHP

If you are an expert in CakePHP (or are just very experienced in it), this can be a writing opportunity for you. CakePHP is looking for simple or in-depth tutorials that will help its users better grasp the program and how to use it most effectively.

They are looking for people who know their stuff and can effectively explain it to others. If you are good at teaching or writing tutorials, this might be an opportunity for you.

Payment: They pay $25.00 for short tutorials (800+ words) and $50.00 for longer tutorials (1500+ words).

Circle Ci

Circle Ci is a website that provides continuous integration and a delivery platform to assist software teams in releasing their code faster. They are looking for articles and tutorials from freelance writers. If you go to the link, you will see what they are looking for and what they offer. It also links to a 4-page google doc that breaks down the process even further.

Payment: Writers are given a Circle Ci swag pack and $300.00 per accepted article.

Digital Engineering

Digital Engineering is looking for articles and commentary on all computer platforms and related peripherals, including operating systems and apps. This publication is written for engineers informing them how different hardware and software impacts them and their jobs.

They are looking for visuals and word counts in the 800–1200 word range for articles. They want these pieces to be 500–700 words in length for commentary.

Payment: They do not list payment online. Payment is negotiated between the writer and the editor after the pitch or after the acceptance of the article.

Digital Ocean

Digital Ocean publishes guides for beginner and intermediate developers. What is different about writing for this tech company versus the rest is that you will get paid, and Digital Ocean will also donate money to a nonprofit or charity.

Payment: Changes and updates to existing tutorials pay $75.00–150.00. New tutorials pay $300.00.

Digital Trends

Digital Trends hires writers to cover all tech topics. This general website covers many different tech topics such as news, reviews, gaming, and a sneak peek of new products.

Payment: You will make between $50.00–250.00.

Elegant Themes

In 2018 Elegant Themes opened up writing articles and tutorials to everyone. Before that, it was only staff and a few trusted freelancers writing all their blog posts and articles, but they came to understand that sometimes the everyday users have the best information, tricks, tips, and hacks.

They are primarily looking for content that helps solve a problem for a user, new or experienced. People are much more important to read and engage with an article that answers a real-world problem or teaches someone how to do something better, faster, or more efficiently. The best articles will help others and teach in easy-to-understand directions.

Their ideal word count is 1000–1500 words, but they do not want you to ramble on. If you can solve a problem with fewer words, do it. The important thing is that your article has a benefit to its users. They walk away being able to fix their problem or learn something new. The articles should be complete, with the issue solved or something new taught, but concise.

Payment: They pay $250.00 per article.

Engadget

Engadget is a website that covers tech news and reviews. If you love writing about games, gaming, gear, and buying guides, this could be the perfect outlet for you. They also cover AI, Space, Robotics, entertainment, phones, smartwatches, headphones, laptops, and gaming consoles.

Payment: The reported payment for this website is $0.25 a word.
