#10YearChallenge 其實係人面辨識練習

呢個講法有唔少人反對，例如今朝 Ellan Ou 就係FB連珠炮發，指出日日我地都俾Data各大科企黎操練旗下AI，10YearChallenge 嘅影響根本係微不足道；仲話大家嘅反彈只係傲嬌。

睇完佢嘅講法，我個腦不由自主係度諗呢個問題（明明我咩都唔識），最後專程睇左成功將呢個話題倍大嘅Wired文章。

Wired呢篇名為 《Facebook’s '10 Year Challenge' Is Just a Harmless Meme—Right?》 嘅專欄文章，作者係Kate O’Neill。

如果你有細睇全文，可以見到佢本身只係當10 Year Challenge係AI練習嘅講法係個大膽猜想；而文中佢亦都花左好多篇幅去回應並確認反對嘅聲音。

Of those who were critical of my thesis, many argued that the pictures were already available anyway. The most common rebuttal was: “That data is already available. Facebook's already got all the profile pictures.”

Of course they do. In various versions of the meme, people were instructed to post their first profile picture alongside their current profile picture, or a picture from 10 years ago alongside their current profile picture. So, yes: These profile pictures exist, they’ve got upload time stamps, many people have a lot of them, and for the most part they’re publicly accessible.

某程度上，篇文可簡單分成兩個部分，首部分係解釋10 Year Challenge點解會係好嘅AI人面年老更變辨認練習 — 因為大家主動用人手㨂選左10年前後嘅相片，可輕易集合大量同類相片之餘，亦可幫助減輕平時因用戶會放舊相上網而對人面年化辨識所帶來嘅noise。

要留意，文章呢個部份嘅中心論點只係10 Year Challenge 「可以」成為一個高效人面老化辨識嘅練習，並唔係指呢個必然係成件事嘅用處。文中亦引述左FB嘅回應，指出10 Year Challenge並唔係FB推動活動，而係用戶自發，FB亦無藉機取利，並提醒用戶可以關掉人面辨識功能。

Facebook denies having any hand in the #10YearChallenge. "This is a user-generated meme that went viral on its own," a Facebook spokesperson responded. "Facebook did not start this trend, and the meme uses photos that already exist on Facebook. Facebook gains nothing from this meme (besides reminding us of the questionable fashion trends of 2009). As a reminder, Facebook users can choose to turn facial recognition on or off at any time.”

明顯見到作者係帶足頭盔。

到文章第二部分，作者就轉到討論人面辨識技術引發嘅社會憂慮，最主要係好易侵犯人嘅私隱。因此作者提醒大家要對自己嘅Data有保護嘅自覺，咁先係要求科企尊重我地私隱數據嘅第一步。

可以見到，文中嘅第一部分同第二部分雖然係「有關連」，但好明顯係兩段唔同嘅訊息，中間係無必然嘅推進關係，即係第一部份並唔係第二部分出現嘅必要先決條件。

亦即係，作者係同意無10 Year Challenge你都係不停俾人拎你嘅私隱數據。

佢嘅建議其實係好似啲伊索寓言故事；又或者更似啲局長評論股市，參與前「要先了解風險」，但其實無話你唔參與呢個就唔會受影響。

呢個只係提倡「大家要醒覺啊」之類嘅閒話，不過放入左好潮嘅context……
