Summary

The provided text describes a dialogue between Ananda and the Buddha on the progressive benefits of wholesome virtuous behavior, leading to ultimate knowledge and liberation.

Abstract

In the text, Ananda inquires about the value of virtuous behavior, to which the Buddha responds that it leads to non-regret. The Buddha further explains a sequence where non-regret fosters joy, which in turn leads to rapture, tranquility, pleasure, concentration, and finally the knowledge and vision of things as they really are. This culminates in disenchantment, dispassion, and ultimately knowledge and liberation, indicating that virtuous behavior is a foundational step towards enlightenment.
