100 Tutorials and Counting: A Milestone Celebration

Hello, and thank you for joining me on this special occasion! Today, I’m celebrating my 100th article on Medium. I decided to take this chance to tell you a bit about me, my tutorials, and my philosophy and goals in making these articles.

I started this journey with my first article on August 23, 2023. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind of creativity, resulting in approximately 12 hours of engaging (I hope!) reading time worth of articles. The joy I find in crafting these tutorials and accompanying them with my own Midjourney creations is immeasurable. As my readership grows toward 450 followers, I am even more excited! Your support fuels my passion and commitment to this explorative path!

My unique approach to Midjourney tutorials

Unlike other tutorials you might come across, I do not use clickbaity titles, I am not trying to sell you anything, and I prioritize transparency and realism in my work. I share the raw, unfiltered quads from Midjourney to set realistic expectations. It’s important to me that you see the creative process in its entirety — imperfections included. This way, you get a genuine sense of what to expect and how you might adapt the prompts for your own masterpieces.

When creation looks too easy for somebody/everybody else, it tends to make us feel worse about our own efforts. If we only ever see the masterpieces, it can be disheartening. In a way, I almost want you to look at my image quads and their prompt and think, “I can do that better,” because you are the hero of your story, so I encourage you to do just that! My whole purpose here is to educate and inspire my readers, and if you have gotten that feeling and desire to make it better, then I feel that I am doing it right. Take what you find compelling and make it your own; make it better, make it great!

Keeping the magic in your hands

I consciously choose not to use every trick in the book within my tutorials, especially regarding specific parameters like stylize, chaos, or weird unless they are the article's topic. I aim to provide a foundation you can build upon, adding your creative spices to venture into uncharted territories. This allows you to start with my prompt and get something similar to what I am showing you. Adding the secret sauces can vary the pictures dramatically and make it harder to expect what the prompt will produce. Once you are using it, start mixing those things in to see where it takes you!

Diving deep to uncover the ‘why’

I believe in the power of understanding the underlying mechanics of the prompts and the Midjourney AI. While it may result in lengthier discussions, this depth unveils the intricacies of AI art creation, offering insights on navigating and tweaking the parameters to your advantage.

I am creating references for you to come back to as you experiment on your own. With many of these new features and all of the things you can do with them, there is simply no way to know everything. For the Style Tuners, there are seven different articles dealing with different aspects and combining them with other features for completely new effects.

The perfect length for a perfect dive

My tutorials typically average around 10 minutes of read time — a duration that, in my experience, allows for a comprehensive exploration of a topic without leaving you wanting more. This length has naturally emerged as the sweet spot for our time together, ensuring a fulfilling learning experience.

Liminal explorations and the allure of the new

The evolving features of Midjourney continually beckon me to deeper explorations into the AI’s capabilities. The liminal spaces — those areas ripe with potential yet untouched by the conventional — invigorate my creative spirit. I find the most exhilarating opportunities for innovation and artistic discovery in these borderlands.

Confessions of a Midjourney enthusiast (addict)

The fascination has never waned since I embarked on my Midjourney adventure. Below is my first prompt in Midjourney, and even though my earliest attempts were highly flawed, I could see the boundless potential of this platform. As Midjourney evolves, so does my passion for exploring its capabilities, with each new version offering fresh avenues for creativity. I have generated nearly 160k images since that first one, and I am just as hooked now as I was then.
