100 Posts On Medium — What I’ve Learned So Far

I’ve surpassed 100 posts on Medium. It’s been a lot of fun here so far and I’ve learned a lot about content writing. While I’ve only been here for two months, there’s been some things that have helped me reach my goals. I’m going to share these below.

#1 Headlines Are Important

Headlines need to draw the reader in for them to want to click on the post and read more. This is something I am actively working on. A great headline can get you more reads than a generic one.

#2 Interacting With Others Helps A Lot

From a success viewpoint, interacting with others helps you to develop more connections on Medium. Most people here are kind and love returning the favour. However, there’s another layer to this.

I believe interacting with others is nice because it feels good to support them and know you’re helping other writers. I don’t actually expect people to visit my posts just because I supported theirs. I want people to read my work because they think it’s interesting rather than out of obligation.

#3 Writing Everyday Is A Good Idea

There are a lot of different opinions on what works the best for earnings on here. Posting everyday seems to be the best. By default, you’ll make a few dollars at least if you post one article or more per day. The guys who make the most money on here have admitted to posting more than once per day, so there must be something to it.

I’ve noticed my own earnings are higher when I post more than once per day. It sounds like a lot, but if you stick with topics you enjoy and create “evergreen” content then it is definitely achievable.

If Medium is just a hobby for you then the frequency at which you post is totally up to you. For those who want to make some money on here, posting everyday seems to work the best.

#4 Writing About Medium Earns The Most

As you may have noticed, the posts that refer to your Medium earnings or tips tend to do better. People love reading about how others are doing and they like to learn from what others are doing.

Now, I do strive to earn a supplementary income here, BUT I don’t just write about Medium stats and success. I like to write about lifestyle and sometimes my books. They may not earn as much, but they’re central to who I am. So, it’s not all about the money.

You may attract enough people to your topics of interest that allows you to make good money from that alone. This is what I am hoping for.

I try not to make every post about Medium itself. If that’s all someone writes about, it starts to get pretty boring. Most readers like content that is authentic, a little personal, and interesting.

There’s a wide world of topics out there besides Medium itself.

#5 Commenting Too Much Puts You In Medium Jail

Thankfully I’ve only hit the comment limit once. It was on a day off and I spent several hours on reading other people’s posts. I still can’t believe I actually hit 100 comments, but somehow I did it. Try to pace yourself and aim for reasonable reading/comment goals. If you do hit the limit you won’t be able to comment for another 24 hours, but the ban will lift after that point.

Thanks for reading today! I hope you enjoyed. :)
