10 Phrases You Need to Move Forward in Life

Photo by Nick Fewings on Unsplash

I have ingrained these phrases into my head as a result of past life lessons. Many of which I do not want to repeat.

I used to be so negative. I just got very sick and tired of thinking in one mode. It’s extremely draining and it drains those around you too.

You can’t keep strolling through life with negativity. What you think, you will attract. If you can’t get out of a negative mindset, you will attract negativity.

I now have a set of phrases that I stick to in my life. They remind me of past situations and how I overcome them and that I don’t want to go back.

1. Everything is going to be okay.

Because it is though, isn’t it? Times get tough but we are never alone. I always remind myself that what is tough for me now, someone else in the world has is 10x worse.

Time is the biggest healer.

2. Patience is key.

I never had patience. Not an ounce. No patience for traffic, no patience for queues whilst shopping, no patience for waiting for my food to cook in the oven. It just wasn’t there.

I noticed that ever time I had a “HURRY UP!” fit, that it really stressed me out. I was pulling in negative energy from all corners of the Earth.

One day I just turned round to myself and told myself to calm down. You will get there in the end, Shamar. You NEED to learn patience in some shape or form.

I admit I am not a master yet, but I’ve come a long way.

3. Three Strikes and you’re out.

People can really do each other dirty in this life. Backstabbing, evil-eye, envy, being fake and two-faced.

I do give people a chance. With added caution, but I do believe in second chances if I feel sincerity is present.

However, if you get it wrong with me three times then that’s it. I have no time for your added stress and doubt in my energy. Goodbye.

4. You’ve made it this far, you might as well keep going.

Everything has a beginning so everything has an ending. Giving up is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. So many times I have looked back over time and thought; “If I had kept going, I bet I would have reached my goal by now.”

And then I have to start again. A perfect recipe for time-wasting. Life is too short, get it done.

5. Nothing lasts forever.

Whilst this sounds negative, actually, it’s not. It’s very much a true statement.

Some things are extremely long-lasting. Relationships, money, etc. But you need to prepare yourself for a possible ending at any time.

If that particular person does leave you, are you prepared for this or will you be totally screwed and allow them to derail your life? If your writing is a major hit for one year, can you financially back yourself if it begins to trail off?

6. For this too shall pass.

Life can hit you fast. Don’t let it drag you down. Stay strong. Easier said than done but asI said, time is the biggest healer.

7. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

With so much trolling and negativity in the world, people are made to think they are not beautiful or things are not beautiful because society says so.

Fun fact, society is a construct that can be easily broken down and changes all the time. Beauty, however, is a solid piece of art that you should hold near and dear to your heart.

If you think it’s beautiful, then it’s beautiful. Don’t listen to anyone else’s opinions.

8. Never bite the hand that feeds you.

Ungratefulness and selfishness are brewed by Satan himself.

These two negative traits will completely lower your positive energy and probably even create bad karma.

Why would you want to hurt those that only helped you? Potentially even put your needs before their needs?

9. Remember to drink water.

Whilst this isn’t a sacred phrase from a great philosopher. It is something that you are told a lot when you are sick or feel pretty crappy.

Water is mandatory for the human body. Better skin, better health, weight loss and energy. Even when you don’t think you are thirsty, believe me, you’re thirsty.

I decided to up my water intake when I was gifted a pretty flashy water bottle from my colleague, which I dropped and it is now in the bin. I still manage to drink my water and have been for two years.

Science recommends you drink 2.7L of water of women and 3.7L of water for men. I only manage about 1.5–2L a day, but that is doing me the world of good (source).

10. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

This is Latin for; “Don’t let the bastards grind you down”. Straight from my favourite book “The Handmaid’s Tale”.

If you have not read The Handmaid’s Tale (shame on you), Offred is the main character who is greatly oppressed by society. The entire book is based upon a Dystopian future surrounding how Handmaid’s are slaves. They have no say in anything. They aren’t valued.

Ring a bell? Yeah, that’s similar to you and me. No one really cares about what we have to say in society. We can’t make any major changes, even rioting and protesting doesn’t really do anything.

We are slaves to the capitalist bastards. The Government. Our place of work. The laws that we live by. Don’t let them grind you down. Live how YOU want to live.

At 23 years old I’m still very much finding my feet. Is my career path the right one? When am I going to meet that “special someone?” When am I going to move out for good and where? The only two things I know for sure are:

  1. Am I going to keep writing up the rest of my life? Yes.
  2. Am I going to die one day? Yes.

Quite frankly I’m sick of the worrying. The uncertainty and not knowing about the future. No one is psychic, but just a little bit of a glimpse into the future would be a good Christmas present.

We all want to know the answer to life’s major questions.

These are a few phrases that I’ve stumbled upon in my short, but not so short time here on Earth. These affirmations have injected positivity into my brain, fuel me with hope and pushed me to unravel my higher-self.

I advise you use them too.
