Have you ever wondered what Stephen King watches on TV when he's not writing his next thriller?

As many of us, our favorite suspense author enjoys watching series on Netflix, but which are the ones he likes?

No matter the excessive cable channels plus so many streaming services available now, you often find nothing to watch. While sitting on your couch scrolling the channels with the remote, you do not know whether a series is good or not.

Maybe thinking about trying some movies or series your family or friends recommended, knowing you don't share the same taste for romantic comedies as your aunt or the art films your presumptuous brother-in-law recommended.

Here is where the author of books like The Shining, Doctor Sleep, and many others recommends it will surprise you with his picks, but you can be sure that they will entertain you and sometimes scare the hell out of you.

Here is the list in alphabetical order. I hope you like them as much as his books.

1. Black Summer (Season 1)

Asylum, an American independent studio that made films like Sharknado Mercenaries, and Android Cop, dubbed by the media as "mockbusters" since they exploited the publicity of another major motion picture, released their first Netflix project on April 11th, 2019.

Under the name of Black Summer, the horror series uses the zombie theme, but with a twist, when mother and daughter are separated during the earliest and deadliest days of a zombie apocalypse.

2. Borderliner

Originally titled Grenseland, it is a Norwegian noir crime thriller series involving Nikolai Andreassen, a police detective from Oslo, who becomes involved in a criminal investigation while visiting his hometown to protect his family.

The series first aired on November 2, 2017, in Norway on TV 2 and Netflix on March 6th, 2018, and appeared on Netflix on March 6, 2018. It has one season. It is worth watching — if you don't mind, it is in Norwegian, and there is no English dubbing version. Still, it has subtitles, and there are Italian, French, and Spanish versions.

3. Calibre

Debuted in 2018 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, this British thriller film tells the story of two friends who venture to Scotland for a weekend of hunting. The plot takes a turn after an accident in the woods. Netflix released the film on June 29th, 2018. The film has many twists and turns, but it is one of the most stressful films you will see all year, with a 95 score on Rotten Tomatoes.

6. DARK

This Sci-fi Thriller German series, running on Netflix from December 1st, 2017, to June 27th, 2020, is probably the best non-English series on Netflix.

It follows four families to pursue the truth in the aftermath of a child's disappearance, unraveling a time travel conspiracy that spans several generations.

7. Dracula

Contrary to the popular response to this horror series. Stephen king found the British BBC-Netflix co-production of Dracula smart, involving, and bloody terrific.

The series from the makers of "Sherlock," inspired by Bram Stoker's novel, presents another view and a group of Kick-Ass nuns, even worse than your memories of Sister Mary Helen from your days at a Catholic school.

8. MINDHUNTER

If you're a fan of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, known as BAU's series as Criminal Minds, Homeland, Killing Eve, or NCIS, you will love this series,

Set in the 1970s, this extraordinary portrait of two FBI agents interviewing serial killers exposes the flaws within a system that, even five decades ago, required an especially fearsome kind of agent.

9. Money Heist (La Casa De Papel)

For those Heist Drama and Thriller fans. This Spanish series is based on a very interesting and diverse group of thieves planning the greatest Money Heist in Spain's history. To rob La Casa de Moneda de España (Spain’s Royal Mint).

It is a five seasons series that you can watch one by one or binge all seasons on a rainy weekend. Without worrying about the language barrier, since it has English subtitles and a dubbed version if you don't enjoy reading caps.

10. The Stranger

Harlan Coben's thriller book adaptation is about a mysterious woman wearing a baseball cap who shares the most intimate secrets with family members, setting a plot of mystery, crime, and suspense.

You could be dead wrong if you think an incognito or a fake online username will keep your secrets. Stephen King recommended this series as an "Addictive Excellent mystery"

An Extra One

As always, I'd like to add an extra King's recommendation, just in case you've already watched the previous ten.

To The Lake

One horror series is about a Russian community facing the end of civilization when a terrifying plague strikes them. They have to risk their lives, loves, and humanity in a desperate struggle to survive.

Which Recommendations Did You like the most?

Stephen King has worked with Netflix on numerous projects. Hence, his Twitter recommendations for Netflix's TV and movie over the years are something we should take seriously.

I have to clarify that many of his books, like 1922, Gerald's Game, The Shawshank Redemption, Carrie, The Shining, and many others, which are on Netflix or other streaming services, didn't make this list.

However, it gives you an insight into other titles the author enjoyed, and I hope you do too.

“Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different.”
