10 Mental Health Habits That Can Save Your Life

Think about your paycheck.

“Cut the cameras.”

If I could show you 18-year-old me, that’s what I would tell you. Why? I was anxious as hell back then.

I panicked if someone in my family got appendicitis. I panicked if my mother got written up at her job. I panicked if my sister drove on the highway.

And it wasn’t your average panic…it was heart-attack-level panic. Literally.

Enough with the panic now. I’m more level-headed than I used to be, and I want to get you out of that anxiousness too.

So here are 10 mental health habits that saved my life.

1. Observe other people — Don’t watch. OBSERVE. Take a chill pill. Walk somewhere, sit down, and observe your surroundings. You’ll reach a high level of self-awareness.

2. Save a certain amount of your paycheck each time you get paid — I’ve saved almost $20k since I graduated college a year ago. I got a job and began saving $1k a month. That doesn’t even count retirement. Save as much as possible for a rainy day or fun experiences.

3. Always make connections with others — I can’t count on one hand the amazing people I’ve met on this platform and Twitter (X). Those connections have allowed me to grow my business and help others with their businesses as well! Connections are crucial for your success.

4. Start friendships with people you have stuff in common with — I met one of my best friends in Japanese class. We also found other stuff we have in common, and we’ve been great friends since. Genuine friendships are the most fulfilling ones.

5. Keep your circle small — I have four friends I talk to a lot. That’s all I need. Too many friends can get you into some bad situations if you’re not careful. You’re not supposed to be friends with everyone.

6. Do something to express yourself daily — This is my form of journaling. Writing has always been a great way for me to relieve stress and express myself. Find something that can fulfill you mentally while also having fun.

7. Take mental health breaks — I get carried away with these, but they work. I never know when to stop and take a deep breath. I’m sure you’re like that too. Take a break, my friend. Recover and you’ll be alright.

8. Take pride in your self-care — Brush your teeth. Do your skincare routine. Take bubble baths. Get a massage. Self-care makes you feel good and work harder.

9. Do something fun daily — Ride a bike. Eat at a new restaurant. Go to an amusement park. Enjoy life. That’s all there is to it.

10. Cherish the moments you have with your loved ones — I went through four deaths in my family since I graduated college. I never thought I’d be in that position. But I’m glad I learned how to overcome those sad feelings. Now, I cherish the people I have. You should too.

Final Thoughts

I hope this list was helpful.

Either way, it’s your life. Your mental health. Your choice.

I know you don’t want to live your life with anxiety and stress. So take it by the balls.

And then conquer it.
