10 Helpful Ways to Promote Your Stories Online!
Can writers on Medium use self promotion advice about promoting stories online?
The act of self promotion is a tricky thing. Not every writer is comfortable doing things to promote themselves and their writing online.
Personally, I don’t have that problem, and it has to do with how I view my articles and the stories that I write.
If you don’t already consider writing as your online business, it’s time you start. If that’s NOT the kind of Medium writer you are now, or that you want to be in the future, then you probably won’t get any value out of this story.
Let me explain, and I promise to make it short and sweet.
I’m a prolific writer on Medium, so writing is my online business.
I’ve been writing online for many years and I know a lot of writing tricks of the trade. This helps me have a much needed advantage, especially since I don’t have a large social media following.
What I lack in the way of online followers, I make up for in online activities and self promotion. Creative marketing and self promotion for my online business is something that I know how to do best (besides writing). It’s also something that I get enjoyment out of.
But not every writer feels the same way about marketing and self promotion,
Writers on Medium don’t all have the same objective.
It’s okay that not all writers on Medium have the same objective. Some are content, simply writing on the platform, strictly for the Medium community.
Others choose to branch out and go in a gazillion different writing directions, and that’s okay too. But at some point, all writers will have to make a decision about something.
How serious are you about your writing?
Whether you stay and write on Medium exclusively, or you freelance and write in as many places as possible, I suggest you really start considering the question I just posed.
Why? Because the sooner you do, the sooner you can take more effective steps to help your stories be discovered and seen online.
Here’s what I recently did, all in an effort to help promote my stories online:
- I created a new website, to solidify my Justiss Goode Medium profile and pen name. I even display titles and links to about 200 of my stories.
- I created a Quora “space” called Pen Names, so I could introduce the rest of the internet to Justiss Goode.
- I created the DAILY JUSTISS Medium publication, as a way to organize and showcase my more than 300 stories I’ve published since May 2021.
- I started writing multiple stories and leaving them in my draft folder, “scheduled” so they post one a day, on a regular basis.
- I started self publishing all my stories to my Profile, so my followers get notified FIRST, then I move them over to Daily Justiss, in a timely way.
- I created a special feature for the Daily Justiss publication, and called it: “Over the Weekend” and now I use it to share stories that I read from other Medium writers.
- I used the “Moments” feature on Twitter, to create a Moment and have fun tweeting and promoting other writers on Medium.
- I created a Justiss Goode Youtube channel, so I can start promoting my Medium stories.
- I wrote and published a short Medium related promo, after converting it to a Youtube video, with the help of a text-to-voice website.
- I wrote a detailed update about what’s been going on with Justiss Goode, and links to all the previous activities. [THAT WOULD BE THIS STORY]
Final Thoughts
As you can see, I’ve had a busy past few weeks, but I sincerely believe it will all be worth it. It might seem like a lot of activities, and for some writers, it might be, depending on their “regular schedule” outside of writing.
If you’re serious about the online business of writing, don’t worry if you don’t have the time or the inclination to do all or any of the above activities.
Perhaps there are other things you can think of doing, that might help you get more eyes on the stories you write. If increasing readership (which equals more reads and more income) is important to you, then, it’s time to stop and ask yourself:
