10 Fun Impossible Animals Created By Midjourney (with prompts!)

As many of you, I’ve been having some fun with Midjourney pushing the limits of my imagination.

Today, inspired by a post on Reddit, I decided to see if I could come up with some fun ones.

It took a minute, as honing in on the prompting took a second. Midjourney 5 results were lackluster, and the trick was to put ‘full body shot’ at the front so I really got to see the animal I created. I also found that naming the animal first, even if I made up the name, and then defining it in parentheses helped get better results.

1. Beetlecat (Beetle + Cat)

A popular name for an asian restaurant, there was a great high end asian streetfood restaurant in San Francisco I used to frequent. I always asked what a Beetlecat was, but never really got an answer. Now I have a picture in my mind!

2. Pandapus (Panda + Platypus)

Well, this one is just fun to say.

3. Beefly (Bee + Butterfly)

I actually spent the most time on this one. It was very hard to get the wings to look like anything special. This was the image that convinced me to use Midjourney 4. And up my style settings.

4. Monkeycoon (Monkey + Raccoon)

It should be noted that ‘coon’ on its own is prohibited in Midjourney, so always make sure to concatenate that term with something else. This guy looks like he’s ready to rumble with any garbage can he sees.

5. Octoray (Octopus + Ray)

I think this one really should be a Squidray — as this octopus looks very squidlike. But he’s still cool.

6. Rabburtle (Rabbit + Turtle)

These ones came out all over the map. Quite often there was only one ear (the big guy may only have one), and 6 legs. I think that is just some AI quirkiness, but the engine struggled with this one.

7. Eliphino (Elefant + Zebra)

In fairness, I used Google’s Bard AI to help me imagine some crazy pairings and also to name them. I question this one’s name. It is so fun to say (close enough to ‘-ell if I know’ to make you smile, but I would expect there to be a Rhino in there. A better name might be Elebra?

8. Poscock (Possum + Peacock)

Another fun one to say, this guy looks like he could exist. I wouldn’t mind seeing him more colorful — though maybe this is female?

9. Catster (Cat + Lobster)

I think if I was drawing it, I’d have those lobster tentacles fuse with some whiskers. But I just love the scales that are on this cat. Not sure what those paws do, but the rest looks realistic.

10. Girafito (Giraffe + Mosquito)

And last, but not least, I may have nightmares about this one. Its huge! It’s a bloodsucking bug bigger than a Volkeswagen—that maybe now eats leaves too?

That’s all for now — hope you enjoyed it!
