10 Explanations Why Classical Music Is Important

#10 — Classical Music makes you happy

Road to joy (image by Stig Nygaard)

One important thing in my life is classical music. I have even played diverse concert halls where all the big musicians are concertizing. I listen every day and I play every day. I have played the violin since I was seven. At the age of six, I had already played the cello for one year.

Lately, I am practising the violin again every day. I feel at peace when I play the violin. I don’t think about anything other than the music I am playing. It gives such a fulfilled feeling when I play the violin. To me, it is like a warm blanket wrapped around me.

So, as classical music is very important to me, classical music is also important for you. You don’t have to play an instrument, but listening to classical music is also very important. Classical music has so many aspects that have a great impact on your well-being.

#1 — Playing an instrument

When you play an instrument, you have something that is yours. You get in the moment when you’re playing the instrument.

I love going into my element when I play the violin. The joy is always there when I play the violin.

#2 — Listening to classical music

As part of playing the violin, I also listen to classical music. I get to know the piece I play. I also love listening to other classical music. I listen when I write, I listen to classical music out of the blue when I cook, and so on. I think I am addicted to classical music. I love to learn about new musicians. I don’t only listen to violinists, I also listen to cellists, violists and other musicians.

#3 — Classical Music lets you interact with other people

When you play an instrument, you can play in an orchestra or an ensemble. You can share your joy while playing an instrument. Also, you learn how others play their instrument and learning to play together. When you give a concert, you interact with your audience by sharing the music you have practised.

#4 — Classical Music gets your blood pressure down

The University of Oxford did research whether your blood pressure will be higher or lower when you listen to classical music. When you listen to pop, techno, and rap your blood pressure increases. When you listen to classical music your blood pressure decreases.

#5 — Classical Music stimulates your brain

The Sapienza University of Rome researched how well classical music is good for your brain. Especially when you listen to Mozart. Listening to Mozart your brain activity increases much more.

#6 — Classical Music reduces your stress

When you listen to classical music, it gives you less stress in your life. This study shows that a pregnant woman — who listens to classical music — has so much less stress. I feel more relaxed when I listen to classical music.

#7 — Classical Music helps against your depression

Do you feel depressed or have you been depressed in your life? Listen to classical music and the depression will reduce after a few weeks. The Medical & Biological Research Center in Mexico found out when you are depressed you definitely should listen to classical music.

#8 — Classical Music gives you a good night of sleep

In your busy life, you could be having a bad sleep. Listening to classical music could help you get your sleep back. Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland found out you get into sleep much better when you listen to classical music before going to sleep.

#9 — Classical Music gives you less pain

Have you ever been in the hospital or did you have surgery? You don’t have to take your medications a lot when listening to classical music. Diverse studies of the Brunel University found out that hospitals use classical music to reduce anxiety before surgery and to ease recovery after. They also found out that patients don’t use medications as often when they listen to classical music.

#10 — Classical Music makes you happy

And another thing is: listening to classical music makes you very happy. It makes me happy writing about it, playing the violin myself, listening to classical music, and interacting with other musicians. A few studies have shown this. So, I assume classical music is good for your health. It is for mine.
