10 Business Goals I’m Setting for Myself for 2022
This is the first time I’m doing this — Wish me luck!
There are New Year’s resolutions and then there are business resolutions which are those goals you set for your business for the next year.
Big companies do this.
Small companies do this too but I have never done this for my business.
This year I’ll start…
10 Business Goals for 2022
I’m hoping that these goals will help keep me accountable. I no longer want to run my company by the seat of my pants.
I love flexibility, freedom and independence.
I can change my mind or alter the direction I’m taking things whenever I want and I love that I can do that but, when you run your business that way, where does goal-setting come into play?
For the first time ever, I’m going to set 10 measurable, actionable goals for my company for next year.
I’ve put my business goals into these five broad categories with the actual goal being specific and actionable:
- Income
- Outsourcing
- Scheduling
- Rewards
- Restructuring
Here’s what they are:
Income
1. $XX,XXX per month consistently in 2022
I don’t want to share the number but you can see it’s five figures. And not just five figures but a consistent five figures every single month.
I’ve talked about making $9K one month and $1,500 the next month before.
You can guard against such massive swings in income if you have multiple income streams.
I do but, I want more and that’s what’s going to help me consistently hit $XX,XXX per month each month in 2022.
How will I reach this goal?
- Planning: organizing my ideas and outlining my plans for reaching this goal.
- Execution: pulling the trigger and executing the plan so I can bring this goal to fruition.
- Multiple income streams: the key behind this income goal so I’ll need to make sure planning and execution happen so I can accomplish this.
Outsourcing
2. Hiring 3 employees
First, I want to hire at least 3 employees (likely freelancers) to help me with my day-to-day.
I’m not sure what I’ll outsource just yet but once I figure this out, I’ll start outsourcing immediately so I can start working smarter in my business.
How will I reach this goal?
Hire 3 people online to help me in my business, from places like:
3. Investing in 3 paid tools
Paid tools are a great way to outsource as well.
Nothing is wrong with free tools but I’ve found that if you put money behind it, you can get to where you’re going a lot quicker.
Do I want to spend 2 months researching 100 keywords because the free version has a max of 50 keywords I can research in a month?
Or, do I want to pay extra and get it all done in one month (or one week)?
The latter.
I will invest in at least 3 paid tools.
Not sure what these tools are yet but this will be uncovered before 2022 starts.
How will I reach this goal?
Figure out where I need help and how I can save time and streamline my work. Research to find the tools that can help me accomplish this and buy!
Scheduling
4. I’ll create a real work schedule for myself
I wrote about this recently.
I have a spotty schedule now.
It’s usually 6am to 9am then, 1pm to 3pm then, 8 pm to 10pm.
Weird, I know.
It’s not like this everyday but most of the time it is. I don’t mind it. I can get in my work, my sleep, my activities and this really works for me.
In the future, I’d like to have a less fractured schedule.
I think it’d be much more efficient to start and finish finish work for the day, before I move onto other things I do.
A schedule like 7am to 2pm, for example.
Then at 2pm, I’m totally done.
How will I reach this goal?
Set a schedule for myself for the long-term and work according to it.
5. Getting a scheduling tool
This can be simple like a planner which I tend to get every year.
I love planners!
I’ve also considered going digital, which my sis pushes me to do. This way I can have my schedule built into whatever device I’m on like my computer or phone.
A tool that works like this but not for scheduling is Evernote.
You get Evernote and can take it wherever you have an internet connection — phone, tablet, computer.
I use scheduling tools sporadically throughout the year usually with much more heavy use at the start of the year and then getting lax with the practice of scheduling around mid-year to end of year.
I want to stop this and be more consistent with scheduling.
How will I reach this goal?
Research scheduling tools and invest in one.
Rewards
6. Give myself a raise
I don’t usually give myself a raise during the year because of how my business is run and it’ll be too complicated to explain it here but I want to get more structured with how I pay myself.
I want to reward my hard work with a raise at least once in 2022.
How will I reach this goal?
Evaluate my progress each quarter and award myself a raise if I did an excellent job.
7. Take 2 vacations
Yes, vacation!
When I worked my 9-to-5 job, I took 2 vacations a year. They weren’t always “fly on a plane” kind of vacations but I did take at least one week time off twice during the year.
I haven’t done that in the past few years because of the pandemic.
But, I want to get back to it.
Vacation can be a plane ride to Vegas. It can be a staycation in my city or a weekend getaway an hour drive away.
It’s necessary to take time off and rest as a business owner. I’ve been neglecting myself in this way for a while and it’s stopping now.
How will I reach this goal?
Do what I did when I worked my 9–to-5.
Look at the entire year. Pick two weeks and vacation-plan for that period.
8. Give myself a bonus
While I don’t give myself a raise, there’s also no bonuses, which is crazy.
I plan to award myself at least one bonus in 2022.
How will I reach this goal?
Give myself a pop-up bonus when I’ve done an exceptionally good job at something, like smashing my new product launch goal or bringing on X new freelance clients.
9. Give myself a minimum of 4 non-monetary rewards
Rewards don’t always have to be monetary. I’m excited for getting at least 4 non-monetary rewards during the 2022.
Here are some ideas:
- Extra day off
- Upgrading my computer, desk or workstation
- Office makeover
That’s what I’ve come up with so far. If you have ideas, please share them in comments.
How will I reach this goal?
Plan those rewards in advance and give myself one each quarter if I’ve done a good job at work.
Restructuring
10. Changing my information products.
I wrote this story about having over a dozen courses and barely making sales:
I’m not just going to rest on my laurels and take that.
I’ve had some success with course creation but I think people are looking for a new way to learn than just taking an online course.
And the digital course industry is so saturated like crazy right now.
I’m thinking about taking some or most of my courses to another format like group coaching, Substack newsletter or something different.
I’ve noticed so many digital products that I have been interested in buying lately have had a different format than an online course. I’ve joined many paid Discord groups, paid Facebook groups, etc.
I’m excited to try this out.
How will I reach this goal?
Outline which products will be restructured. Find the new education format I will use for those products and start transitioning them over.
How do you set your business goals?
That’s what I’ve got for 2022.
I’m glad I wrote it down so it can be something I can look back on. This is the general version of it. I have a much more specific version for my own records and I’ll use that to check in and ensure I’m sticking to my plan.
Do you do personal or business goal setting for yourself?
What does that look like for you (how do you do it)?
