10 Books That Changed My Life and Gave Me a Sense of Purpose: How Reading Can Make You a Better Writer

Certain books can change your life. They give you a sense of purpose and make you want to be a better person. As a writer, it is important to read as much as you write. You need to feed your brain with inspiration and knowledge if you want to produce great work. In this blog post, we will discuss 10 life-changing books that will make you a better writer.
Read everything — trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it is good, you’ll find out. (William Faulkner, interviewed by Lavon Rascoe for The Western Review, Summer 1951)
The first life-changing book is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
This book will change the way you live your life and give you a sense of purpose. It teaches you how to be impeccable with your word, doesn’t take anything personally, doesn’t make assumptions about others’ actions or words, and always does your best. These are four simple agreements that can change your life for the better.
The second life-changing book is Rebound Rules by Rick Pitino.
This book is about life lessons that Rick Pitino learned after being fired from the Boston Celtics. He was at his lowest point, but he bounced back and became one of the most successful college basketball coaches in history. This book will teach you how to rebound from your failures and become a successful person. This used to be my favorite and Rick used to be one of my favorite coaches, he let me down on the allegations that were brought up a few years ago. But, with that being said, this is still a great book for entrepreneurs and business professionals. We’re all going to make mistakes and have failures in life, it’s how we bounce back from those that matter in life and business.
The third life-changing book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
This book will help you find your legend and follow your heart. It teaches you how to be fearless and take risks in life. When you pursue your legend, you can accomplish your life’s purpose and live a life of meaning. All aspiring entrepreneurs need to read this!
The fourth life-changing book is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
This book will show you how to manifest what you want in life. It teaches you the law of attraction, which states that like attracts like. When we focus on positive thoughts and emotions, it brings more positivity into our life. When we focus on negative thoughts and emotions, it brings more negativity into our life. This is a phenomenal read and I have recommended this book as much as my other favorites. They even have a documentary on Netflix and a movie was also produced about this theory of thinking.
The fifth life-changing book is The Untethered Soul by Michael A Singer.
This book will help you let go of the things that are holding you back from living an authentic life. It teaches you how to be mindful of your thoughts and emotions, so you can let go of fear and pain. When we learn to let go of our negative thoughts and emotions, life becomes more peaceful.
The sixth life-changing book is How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
This book will teach you how to be a better person in life and at work. It teaches you how to make people like you, win people over to your way of thinking, and change people without anger or resentment. If you want to be a successful person in life and work, this book is an excellent read. This man was a legend in America and did things in his error that was simply amazing!
The seventh life-changing book is The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale.
This book will teach you how positive thinking can change your life. It teaches you how to believe in yourself and have faith that everything will work out for the best in life. If you want to live a life full of happiness, joy, and abundance this is the book for you!
The eighth life-changing book is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
This book will teach you how to achieve financial success. It teaches you the secret to getting rich, which is to think and grow rich. When you put your mind to it, anything is possible! (This is one of my favorites of all of them.) The old version is as good as the updated one, I have read both.
The ninth life-changing book is The Power of Intention by Dr Wayne Dyer.
This book will teach you how to manifest what you want in life through intention. It teaches you how to set your intention and let go of the outcome, so life can unfold naturally without any resistance from us.
The tenth life-changing book is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
This book will teach you how to live in the present moment and let go of the past and future. It teaches you how to be mindful and enjoy life as it happens. When you learn to live in the present moment, life becomes more peaceful and enjoyable!
Read a Lot, Write a Lot The real importance of reading is that it creates an ease and intimacy with the process of writing; one comes to the country of the writer with one’s papers and identification pretty much in order. Constant reading will pull you into a place (a mind-set, if you like the phrase) where you can write eagerly and without self-consciousness. It also offers you a constantly growing knowledge of what has been done and what hasn’t, what is trite and what is fresh, what works and what just lies there dying (or dead) on the page. The more you read, the less apt you are to make a fool of yourself with your pen or word processor. … “[R]ead a lot, write a lot” is the great commandment. (Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, 2000)
Stephen King says it best — “Read a Lot, Write a Lot” This man is a beast at writing and his books are some of the longest I have ever read. I don’t read much fiction, but his and James Patterson are by far my favorites to read.
I will end with this, read what you write and write what you read! Read more to have enough ideas to write more. My best advice to anyone that is having writers block, pick up a book and read.
