#1 With a Bullet

My first Medium $10-earning Story

Look out Warren Buffet. There’s someone in your rearview mirror. And he’s approaching fast!

That guy is yours truly. Did I just win ten lotteries on the same day? Did I put my life savings in a penny stock which zoomed to $100 per share overnight? Nope! I just scored my first $10-earning story on Medium. If only I had a big firecracker sitting around my crib! I could blow a few fingers off!

Ok! So I’ve published 59 articles in 28 days. Some were old bygone blog stuff rehashed and edited for Medium. Others I wrote from scratch. The point is I’ve taken the advice of oh so many advisers to write my ass off, take a breath, and then write my ass off some more. I’ve related stories about prison. And my life on the road as a musician. And train trips. And pot-smoking. And mom. And my shitty old job. And on and on.

Well…you’re not gonna believe which story hit the milestone first. It’s called “Savannah the Peg Queen.” It’s all about a hooker who made big bucks pegging clients — and how she felt about the masculinity of those men. I’m not fucking kidding here. Out of almost 60 stories, that’s the one that rang the bell.

I’m not sure what that says about Medium and its readers. Like maybe the audience is primarily comprised of women with penis envy. Or closeted male homosexuals. I have no clue, really.

Yesterday, I published my first list — a piece about how I hit the $100/month mark on Medium. So far, it’s doing very well — at least for me. There’s a chance it could overtake Savannah in a month. But Savannah is still trickling pennies. So it looks to be a hotly-contested race. I’ll just have to stand by.

There’s a third submission which is showing promise; “Her First Orgasm,” a story about a working girl who’d slept with literally thousands of men without ever having experienced the ultimate, only to have an Average Joe finally turn the trick. And then when she thanked him profusely, he got angry and went to the owner to complain about what a bad actor the girl was in the room.

Again…an odd winner…begging the question “exactly who is your average Medium reader?” I have no idea. I just pepper the platform with stream-of-consciousness essays and then observe which rise to the top and which sink like lead balloons.
